Hi
I’ve applied for a council bungalow as my disability has got worse since i
moved into a private rented bungalow 16 months ago. I’ve been placed in band 8 as I work. Can anyone help how I can get in a higher band. I can barely walk and my current home has steps
to get outside and I can’t get in the bath to have a shower. I can’t have a disability grant as I work from home. I’m so upset and feel I’m being discriminated just because I want to work
thanks

thanksYou would need to fill out a medical form, and be assessed for one. However there is a high demand for bungalows and not many to go around for people assessed for one so the wait can be long. You may find that since your already in a bungalow and not homeless you may not been placed on a urgent priority for one and may take some time. The first step though is to contact your council and fill out a medical form so you can be assessed.I know councils have strict and different criteria for bungalows and some require you to be a certain age first, you will need to speak to your council and find out the requirements.Goodluck. -
Hello @littlesue and a warm welcome to the community.
I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble finding suitable housing, sadly you're not alone in experiencing this.
Do you have any evidence or documention explaining how your current home is impacting your wellbeing? This could include medical records or assessments from healthcare professionals such as an occupational therapist.
Have you read through the criteria for different bandings and seen which you feel matches your situation? These should be freely available from your local council's website.
