Advice on decorating new wheelchair
Hiya I got a new wheelchair the other day (attendant propelled NHS one) and was wondering if anyone had any advice on how to make it feel like me? It's not a mobility aid that I will be using the most but when I do need it I'd like for it to feel more like me ya know. So if anyone has any advice on how to make it more comfortable and pretty that would be greatly appreciated.
(We've already done our own cushion cover for the seat which is a nice start)

I changed the tires on my self propelled for brighter ones. Also got a pocket made for my phone and purse. I've got a velcro pouch on the seat belt which has my medical info inside as I'm on blood thinners and have allergies. I would look in the bike section too as I got some "spokey dokey" type thingsthat don't move around/make noise but made it more me - glow in the dark star shaped ones. Also some tiny but bright bike lights for when I have to go in the road at night or can't see the ground in front of me.

IMHO, with a wheelchair there should always be a minimum set of tools to troubleshoot minor problems. And glow-in-the-dark tires are already available? Also, when riding a wheelchair in the dark, a headlamp is required.

From my own experience, I can say that wheelchairs at pedestrian crossings are hardly noticeable to car drivers. It is worth considering installing a DRL (daytime running light) with a battery if you plan to use your wheelchair outdoors. Typical bicycle lights are less bright than DRL.

Results This study found that, from 2006 to 2012, the mortality rate for pedestrians using wheelchairs was 2.07/100 000 person-years (95% CI 1.60 to 2.54), which was 36% higher than the overall population pedestrian mortality rate (p=0.02).
