I've just had a look online and it says:
"If you want to claim Universal Credit you must verify your identity. This helps to link the right person to the right claim and reduce identity fraud.
You can verify your identity by one or more of the following:
- online identity verification
- face-to-face appointments
- documentary evidence
- biographical interviews "
can i request one of these instead?
or can i verify my husbands ID at the jobcentre without him attending?

I had a feeling they would refuse to allow you to upload documents for the ID. Yes, you ask for a telephone appointment for your husband at least. You may have to attend your appointment in person.

Thank you for your quick response.
Can i verify his ID for him at the job centre or not?

Do i literally just say, "could i request a telephone appointment instead please?"
0 -
No, you will not be able to verify his identity at the job centre on his behalf. Yes, just request the telephone appointment.

sorry for another post, just want to get it right,
Do i need to give a reason? or just ask for them to be changed to telephone appointments?

There may be a requirement to verify the identity in person? I'm afraid I am not too knowledgeable about this but that is my first thought. I'll see if I can find out any more about it though

Thank you, is there any reason they can refuse this telephone appointment? If they do, do we 'have' to have someone come to our home?
(my husband has an extreme fear of illness (especially Covid) and doesn't even attend in person medical appointments unless an absolute emergency). We also don't have anyone to our home unless they're family and have done a Covid test. So someone coming would cause a huge amount of distress.

For your husband he can ask for a reasonable adjustment for a telephone appointment, due to his health conditions.
For yourself you may have to attend in person but again you can ask them.

Jimm, as their partner has reported a health condition they can request a reasonable adjustment for a telephone appointment.
I’ve advised hundreds of members here to do this and there hasn’t been any issues for them.

Thank you both, I know a few organisations who have insisted on in-person ID verification in the past so wondered if it was like those.
Though these days there's plenty of ways to verify ID even over apps so I'm not sure why it would still be necessary. I've certainly verified my ID with government organisations over apps.
As stated, it's an area I am not too knowledgeable on, so I do appreciate the correct information. I agree it's hugely inaccessible and they should offer another way to do it as a reasonable adjustment, though I think surely in this day and age it would be even easier as the default option?

Hi Poppy, on the 15th they put in my journal that they will arrange a home visit instead of going into the job centre. i then messaged straight back and asked for telephone appointments instead.
This wasn't answered, then today they have messaged that they have arranged a home visit next week. if i have any questions about the visit i can get in touch.
what do i put now? does this sound ok?
'Hi, I messaged on the 15th to ask for telephone appointments as a reasonable adjustment as Allan finds in person appointments extremely distressing and they negatively impact his mental health. I would really appreciate it if these could be arranged instead please.'

That's sounds fine to me.

Hi again, just to update you - we had a home visit (they just turned up even though i asked for it to be on the phone) but at least it got it sorted.
I then waited….. and waited….. it took a month for them to process my claim but i 'think' its finally sorted although they continued paying IS which i assumed was normal but i got a message saying they'd over paid me due to the IS payment so that will be taken off of future payments.
Also i get CA for my OH who gets PIP. I remember reading about the carers element of this. I can't see it mentioned on my UC statements anywhere, do i need to apply for this separately? Have i left it too late? I didn't realise it wasn't automatically done if you're entitled to it.

sorry me again with another question:
Just looking at the payment statement and it says:
standard allowance - you said you're in a couple £617.60
carer £198.31
deductions carers allowance -£354.90
total payment for this month £461.01
(two adults, two 17 year olds. I am a carer for my OH who receives PIP)
Is this right? should child element be on the first statement?
0 -
For carers element, which is £198.31/month if you reported being a carer when you claimed UC then it should be included, unless they haven't yet confirmed your partners claiming a qualifying disability benefit. It would have been a question that was asked when you first claimed.
It's not automatically paid even if you're claiming carers allowance.
If you didn't report it then you'll need to report a change of circumstances and then click "caring for someone" and report it through there.

Your breakdown shows you are receiving the carer element summersunflower.
Are your 17-year-olds in fulltime, non-advanced education? If so, you should have received the child element for them too.
1 -
yes they are home educated which i updated their education status back in August, its on my journal saying
#'s education status has been updated and has the start and end date
do i put a note on the journal saying the child element is missing?
0 -
If i do need to put a note in the journal, do i say something like:
I have two children who i receive Child Benefit for and who are in full time approved education but i cannot see the child element on my latest statement?
0 -
Yes put that. It maybe that they just haven't confirmed them yet, which can happen if this is a recent claim. You will be entitled to 1 higher child element and 1 lower element.
