Housing have accepted me as homeless

So had an email from housing needs saying my homeless application has now been approved and they have a duty of care to take care of my situation within a certain period of time. I am currently in band B medical and they hope to upgrade this to A once environmental health complete their report ( for illegal eviction ) has anyone been through this and can give some notes on how the process was. I understand it still could be a while before resolved and I'm fine with that it's just how did people cope in a hotel room over a period of time what did they do to break up days? It's weird at 51 becoming a single fella again and sat in a hotel with suitcases and eating out every meal. Cheers

Hey @Will777, I'm glad to hear some movement has been made in getting you a place and you now have a hotel room and food.

If I was in your situation I would personally head down to the local library (if it's not been shut down at least) and take out a few books. Or even read them there to get me out of the room. I think staying in the room all day probably isn't in your best interests! Often if you have a local library they'll also have computers there for internet access to help with forms and more as well. Rather than having to do it all on a phone if you don't have a laptop.

I'm not sure what else I would do, I guess I'd try to walk around more. I'd go crazy just sitting in the hotel room all day, even with books to read!

Walking is not something I can do too well at moment got surgery next month unless they cancel it due to my circumstances. Books I have anyway love reading but like the idea of somewhere to just go for a bit and go on computers. My ex has my laptop so will get it back eventually all being well. I am getting out for a drive during day maybe should go further afield just being tight with money at moment as definitely more expense living in a hotel food wise.

Check out adult education courses in your area. You are lucky as it's still September and courses have just started so you haven't missed much.

Google your LEA and adult education and see if there is anything you fancy doing like photography, learning a language etc.

Glad to hear you are moving towards getting your own place and take it one day at a time.

And another thing, do try and eat healthy. When you are living in temporary digs you can get into the habit of buying a lot of high fat, high sugar, high salty meals which not only affects your health in the long run but also affects your moods and your energy levels. If there are cooking facilities or if you are allowed a mini fridge, kettle and a microwave, try and do some simple healthy meals like getting some fresh pasta like Ravioli and pasta sauces and some prepared veg, or jacket potatoes with healthy fillings like tuna etc. If there isn't any cooking facilities, try and stock up on a lot of fresh fruit and make sure you have at least one salad a day.

It is a pity that the only food easily available when you are out is always unhealthy.

With the Spanish, also try Duolingo. It is a free website and offers a brilliant and really fun Spanish course from beginners to advanced. They do lots of other languages too. That coupled with a local adult education course will really develop your skills faster.

With health and fitness, if you have mobility problems, there are some super seated exercise videos on YouTube like Yoga, Pilates, aerobics etc which are really fun that you can take at your own pace.

@Will777 I am 55 and I have been in this situation, i was placed in emergency accommodation for 3 months (not to bad) first then moved to a homeless hostel 2yrs 2 months and worked with my keyworker (try and keep yourself to yourself, alot of temping things happen, drugs ect), then i was placed in a special hostel 1yrs 1 month for mental and physical health, was given a in house support worker from the word go, i worked with my support worker and was eventualy given the lovely home that i am currently in and have been for 3 years now

A games console and repairing bicycles, a craft workshop and some light voluntery work kept me out of harm's way (I am not much of a book reader)

For any advice or help please message

I used an Xbox One and my phone as a hotspot and volunteered for the local food bank which was quite good as I got to choose what I wanted/needed and cost nothing except some of my time which I had an abundance of.

The key to it all is to work with any key worker or support worker provided, they make things a lot easier and even though it took a good deal of time things do happen a bit faster and you will hopefully get the help you need

    All the best
