Thanks @vikki66 I think I spent about 20 hours on them altogether? I was out of the hobby for 30 years, but started trying to paint again last year, so there's lots to learn!
I can totally empathise with losing confidence, especially if it's something he enjoys, I still have periods where I fluff something up, then cant even think about painting for a few weeks. My top tips would be to take your time, it's not a race. Practice boring things like base coating and edge highlighting on basic troops (space marine Intercessor squads are great for practice). And most importantly; Thin your paints! A couple of thinner coats is better than one gloopy thick coat. 😊I'm always happy to give some tips, as I know how rubbish I used to feel when the models didn't look how they did in my head.

hi @vikki66 im sorry to hear about your son not feeling confident around art. It’s unfortunate that society crushes people’s dreams at times, in my experience. I’ve often found just a comment from another person has thrown me out.
I have to remind myself that I draw for me and not the masses. How old is your son, if you don’t mind me asking. May I suggest he shares previous artwork on here if he has any. We would let him know how amazing his artwork is! All art is art to the individual and doesn’t matter what people think. So hope you don’t mind my message. Having children myself I can relate. Cheers

oh my goodness that’s a lot for you both to be going through. Have you reached out to Scope to see if they might be able to direct you for some support.
It’s almost like he has had no freedom to express himself at school. I was always a supporter of help in the community (perhaps I still am) supporting children to adults, all kinds of projects.
If they had just given him a space with paints, wall or paper to paint on, whenever he felt the need to express. Do you paint? I’m sure you have tried many things. Maybe give him a wall to paint. (Suggestion) I use to allow my daughter to draw on one wall. As she would draw on anything that came into her touch lol. She designs cake now.
Perhaps put his paints by the wall and let him decide. You never know Vikkie.
Don’t give up. You actually need the support for sure! In order to build him up. What organisation have you reached out to, have they helped.

@vikki66 your son is definitely going through a lot at the moment. I really hope he finds that spark to paint again soon, it's really helped me and has become my meditation time, so from an autistic point of view, it's been super helpful as time to process things. Plus most Games Workshops let you take your minis in and paint there. 😁

Oh no, what a nightmare! That's the main problem with the GW paints, easy to forget to close them up, or you spill them everywhere! It's worth looking at a paint range called "Two thin coats" They're from one of the old Games workshop painters are are in dropper bottles, so less spillage and waste. Plus they colour match to all of the GW paints. 😊

The guy on the left isnt quite finished, but I wanted to do a side by side comparison to show myself how far my painting has improved in a year. Gotta say, I'm quite happy! Now I need to work on my photography skills. 😆

Hi @Bluebell21 You always make nice comments. I have been very privileged throughout my life to be surrounded by talented people, ever since I was a little boy in the days of 2 channel black and white telly! Singers, dancers, musicians (the worlds best), actors, artists and what have you. My late partner was a cabaret artiste that Simon Cowell would have absolutely hated, but my partner was also a very good painter and he sold quite a few oils. For myself, my job in life was just to make other people happy.
I wish I could do a cross stitch, or make a painting or construct a model. But I am not able to do so. Maybe next year…

With some help… made a shelter for the local tom, a lean-to by the shed. He's an outdoor cat, hates to be shut-in anywhere + incredibly nervous, but he can have a quiet time here whenever he likes, provided the weather's not too bad. Only 2 walls + a ceiling - but he loves it! We call him Sooty (PS he gets loads of food too…)
