Are we allowed to discuss the assisted dying bill on here? It's in the news today about Canada. In Canada they intend to include mental illness from 2027. It's quite obvious to me that if we pass anything through, gradually things change and get added by various governments.

I have huge concerns over people feeling a burden, a nuisance and scarily the way this country seems to view the long term sick and disabled, it would save the money they continue to want to save and continue to go on about.

How can you be of sound mind with a mental illness.

i imagine this would be the start of the floodgates being left wide open to changes in the law going forward ie life for rapists or murderers or a pill sorted from what i can gather its for people with 6 months or less to live so there not going to be saving that much money as with most things to do with governments theres more than meets the eye

I don't see this the same as the dealth penalty. That hadn't been the case in the uk for years, though I believe other countries still have it.

I see it as a very slippery slope with lax safeguards.

I see it as sinister I see life for what it is and that The government our not for the people they proved that I find starmer very very sinister the people he's represented over the years shows who he is and yes I worry for this and what is happening to The UK

Would an admin be able to put what the topic is about at the top because I think if someone reads trigger warming it would pit them off reading it. It nearly Did for me but I tool the risk and it has paid off because I have a lot to add on this topic.

I honestly didn't know what to put in the title. If we are allowed to say in brackets assisted dying bill) that might help, but I didn't want to upset anyone/break any rules by doing so.

i suppose people react in different ways to death and terminal illnesses its sad but a fact of life having been in farming all my life have seen a fair bit with animals we can make the decision to put a sick animal to sleep and at the end of the day thats what we are humans are hell bent on prolonging life then complaining about how much it costs because we are all living longer i personally think this bill will be a very slippery slope

I don't take this bill in any sort of sinister way as it says it's, 'A Bill to allow adults who are terminally ill, subject to safeguards and protections, to request and be provided with assistance to end their own life'

    Please see:

    https://bills.parliament.uk/bills/3774

I think it would have to be medically proven that a person is terminally ill, tho I'm sure some people with some long-term medical conditions/those that are gradually progressive & robbing them of the chance to interact with their loved ones, even to speak/to breathe effectively, etc. may wish it included them.

I think it will be there for loved ones currently following their partner/spouses wishes that they'd help them to die being protected if this became law rather than facing prosecution.

I am just considering overwhelming physical problems here as the bill is about those 'terminally ill.'

At the moment that is what the bill says. But, if you look at what is happening in other countries, it will be a domino effect imo that will start to include those who are not terminal.

I understand the concerns looking at Canada for example, but here in England & Wales, if the bill passes, it's said it will be with the strictest set of rules in the world:
