Being told to attend face to face at job centre or claim will be closed because of PIP back payment.

I forgot to mention I posted my latest journal entry under payments, because there doesnt seem to be a service issues option.

keep us updated pls coz I’ll be going through all this soon

Only change is a message to inform me because I get ESA my payments will be affected, so someone has looked at my file to add that message but ignored the journal. Paper statements which I requested from my bank are not here yet either.

Those messages are automatically generated so someone might not have read your Journal yet.

I declared my savings above 6k last month, I was really worried about it, having to send bank statements etc online. I never received any messages in my journal about a review of any kind, it was straight forward for myself, and they just deduct so much each month depending on my savings. It seems certain claims are flagged for whatever reason if they appear to be higher risk of fraud, e.g, a change of job/earnings, moving address and how much rent your now paying. Some people don't hear anything from DWP and some seem to be asked for more evidence or to come to job centre for face to face interviews, it hardly makes you want to declare your savings etc because of the worry and stress of it all. DWP should get their own house in order first instead of hassling claimants for trying to do the right thing, especially those who are already sick, vulnarable or disabled, and making their conditions worse.

This is what makes it even more frustrating, knowing its not standard process, I have not found anyone else reporting my situation anywhere else and both you and overly, were able to just update the savings.
I have already decided I wont be going in, its even more of an issue knowing I would be doing it for nothing as the paper statements are not even here, I will ring UC early Monday to make this clear.
Making people jump through hoops like this discourages changes being reported.1 -
I know , it’s like your being punished for doing the right thing .
I have to update soon because stupid me didn’t spend all my backdated pip and the 12 month disregard will up in a few months , I’ll then be well over the 6k by an awful lot . I’m absolutely dreading having to do this, I’m sure they’ll put me through what they’re putting you through . Keep us updated pls and I hope it goes ok .1 -
They just want to vilify us

It was £21 this month as I had over 7k in my account, they take £4.35 for every £250 you have over 6k in your account. If I'd have had a straight 7k it would have been £17.40, if it's an odd amount say £7,165 they would round it up to the next nearest £250, which would be amended next month depending on if your savings have increased or decreased. It sounds more complicated than it actually is, but that's DWP for you!! They work it out as follows, £1000 is divided by 250, which =4, 4muli[lied by £4.35=£17.40, which is deducted from your U.C. I just amend my savings each month, (assessment period) in change of circumstances, regardless of if I have more or less in my account, they just work out how much to deduct or increase your U.C payments each time you are paid, hope that helps, please don't be confused by it all like I was, worrying and stressing about it, in the end it was straight forward, nobody contacted me, hassled me, or left dreaded messages in my journal etc.

It’s over in 3 months I had saving before as well so I’ve been spending that as well but when my 12 months is over I’ll have well over 6k left I wish I spent ALL my backdated pay now

the constant worry and anxiety is having terrible effect on my and making my MH much worse

It seems they’ve done what they supposed to do with you but with worried they’re calling them into the jobcentre for doing the right thing , seems it’s random then

Ok here is an update, I think i am going to be contacting my MP.
I didnt attend the appointment, they just rang me, and as a result my UC payments are on hold as they insist they need this evidence and in paper format only.
I asked them specifically will I have to go through this process every time I report a change, they said yes, I mentioned about others doing it online and they claim this is something they have never heard off. Basically every single change of financial circumstances reported will require physical statements, not a one off.
They have agreed to a home appointment or family member taking it in, but this seems stupid, as other people are not been asked to do this, it feels like I am being picked on.1 -
I know all the worry makes our MH even worse the stress is terrible . Hope u feel better Catherine x

Thank you for the update. I don't know what to advise next unfortunately.
I really hope it's not a new trial. But can't see that it would be, as it would add a large workload to Job Centres that are already overworked and understaffed.
I will be left with no choice but to stop reporting or lose UC if it happens to me.

this is ridiculous, what’s the point of having that option on the journal then ?
I can’t believe they are doing this to you, is it a case manager you’ve spoken to or just a work coach ?1 -
the whole thing is ridiculous and stressful, if this is what we have to do every time our savings change ill absolutely make sure after I report my saving in next few months I’ll not be reporting again after that because I’ll spend every penny of my income after that don’t even care if they think it’s depravation , I can’t go through this every month .
I read in a forum ages ago that’s it’s absolutely best to try and keep savings below 6k, wish I’d have done this .1 -
The idea of stopping UC has already gone through my head, close the claim, when savings get down to 1k, open it again, I would keep LCWRA I assume via nsESA. Maybe they are trying to push me in this direction, an easy way of removing TP.

Maybe I’ll do this as well - was it easy to apply for nsESA? Did you do it all on the phone ?

Although this seems like the easier option, it may not be quite that simple.
You only have 6 months in which to reopen a closed claim. If you leave it longer than 6 months then you have to start a whole new claim. I'm not sure whether your savings would drop enough in 6 months while getting NS ESA payments as well? Also bear in mind you'd lose free prescriptions and access to social tariffs for broadband and energy if you use those. And you may lose council tax reduction as well.
If you leave it longer than 6 months (or for those of us whose claims close when capital exceeds £16k) we would have to start a brand new claim. That means going through the ID verification process again. And waiting for the NS ESA details to be sent over to get LCWRA. Then we'd have to reapply for council tax reduction.
I'm not sure if you would lose TP by reopening a closed claim within 6 months. I do know that if we have to start a new claim (for reasons above) then we would lose the TP.
It's also worth noting they may ask for bank statements if you try to open a claim that has dipped below the £6k. Spending the capital while you're not on UC can still count as deprivation when you reapply again.
Sadly there doesn't seem to be an easy option at the moment.
