I would argue that it would be keeping a promise to the voters when they said they wouldn't return to austerity.

I just read the times article (the times are having a free to read weekend) and I persume they would have direct quotes from the dwp this close to the green paper launch)
This article has just knocked me for ten if I’m honest
It sounds like autistic ppl like myself may have our points totally wiped reassessment
I’m really trying to stay calm till we can read the official text on Tuesday but it’s hard not to feel hopeless and I hope they’ll be other articles on Sunday saying there will be no way dwp/treasury will be allowed to go to these extremes.
I know the idea of fighting back right now feeling impossible right now and these reforms may be the highest stake reforms many of us have encountered thus far and right now I just want to survive out of spite or take one of the political architects of these reforms down with me (if reeves or Kendall have indeed gone down this unthinkable path)2 -
does anyone know how long it would take to bring these changes in ? Will they need to go to a vote and will they be delayed by any court action ? This is even harsher than the Tory’s and they lost in court so how can this be legal

Feeling very worried and alone right now. I have got various physical disabilities which I’ve had since birth and developed others as I’ve got older. If all the things happen that we think will happen I will be homeless so what’s the point of living anymore, I live on my own and have been housebound for nearly 4 years. I have no friends and family so I think I will just go away as I can’t take this. I hope one day the instigators of these policies feel what I and everyone else feels, total hopelessness and betrayal by people who we thought would be better than this. God bless everyone

Everyone try to stay strong. I have a feeling there will be growing support. This will be the biggest rebellion issue they have faced and will gain alot more public attention going forward.

It is looking more and more like what was proposed in the Tory consultation.
They proposed removing the adaptations descriptors (2 points each), these include dressing, and washing and also include preparing food. My prediction was they would target descriptors mentioned in the Tory plans and quite possibly not even do another consultation as one has already been done.
A lot of people it looks will be affected for both physical and mental needs, unless this gets watered down enough.0 -
can this be challenged in court or will it be brought in quickly? Surely this goes against our human rights ? I’m really starting to wish rishi was still PM. Starmer and reeves are hateful.

so if this is a green paper does that mean it’s at consultation stage ? The Tory’s at least posted questionnaires for us to fill out . Can this be watered down or be delayed if it goes to court ? I’m some reports I’m reading a pip freeze would need to go to a vote but not changing pip or lcwra amounts. It’s all worse than the Tory’s plans and they were defeated in court . Can they really force sick ppl to work or they lose benefits?

He's my MP I've emailed him before and his office replied. My partners mum has met him and says he's lovely. I'm heartened to see he said something.

what about the echr surely we are protected there ? Do you think it will be this bad at the end of the day ? Literally leaving ppl destitute. Who do think will be caring for ppl , if we lose pip then carers have to work.

I can’t remember who asked but — a Green paper is a consultation document — so it outlines the proposed policies, and then it goes out for consultation. Sometimes it’s to the wider public, sometimes it’s just to a specific group (like experts in that field.)
This is how bills pass through parliament:
- Green paper is announced and goes to consultation, as mentioned above
- White paper is a statement of policy and often follows a Green Paper — it’s just kind of a more definitive description of legislative proposals
- Then, once they’ve ironed out all their details, the bill goes to a First Reading in parliament. This isn’t a debate or anything, it’s just the govt introducing the bill
- The Second Reading is when it becomes a debate in parliament
- After this, it goes to a Committee stage, which is when a group of MPs (cross-party) get together and go through the bill in extreme detail, going clause by clause. They also have the opportunity to hear oral or written evidence (although they sometimes don’t)
- After the committee, there is the report stage. This is when the bill goes BACK to the Commons and is debated again. It’s immediately followed by the Third Reading. Both of these include debates between MPs.
- If it’s passed at this stage, it is sent to the House of Lords where it goes through the same process (readings, committee etc.)
- THEN, if it’s passed by both houses, it’s sent to
a real welfare scrounger living off taxpayers money, ahem, the monarch — so Charles now — for royal assent. Basically getting him to sign off on it, and then it can actually start being implemented.

this government make me feel sick. Can guarantee now my PIP MR will be rejected. Now I’m worried about losing my LCWRA which keeps me just about able to feed and clothe myself. Last time I went into the job centre for an ID appointment I cried because I couldn’t even handle that, let alone look or prepare for work and face sanctions, all whilst starving because they’ll take away the money I use to buy a food shop.
It’s completely unforgivable I don’t even know what to say anymore I feel like giving up on life and I would have done a long time ago if I didn’t have children because what is the point in living a life when you’re constantly persecuted constantly pushed into having breakdowns, constantly judged, browbeaten and powerless. I hate this government they are complete irredeemable and evil1 -
Thanks for that. I actually think they may have trouble getting it through the Lords too if we protest enough. I wouldn’t put too much stock in the Times article. Sadly they are clickbaiters now too.The real people behind these kind of cuts are Starmer’s advisors IMO.. reptile eyed Paddy McFadden and Morgan McSweeney. Loyalty to no party but themselves.
Thing is, last week I spent 3 days trying to get a phone consultation from GP.. finally got one next week! How is a new changed round of assessments going to affect GP practises, how can you cut sickness benefits if the disabled cannot access a doctor quickly? Are we just going to drop in streets, be taken to A and E.. practically these changes don’t work. Labour think they are gaming the system when in fact their making it a logistical, walking through tar nightmare. Who are going to be the new super empathetic ‘local’work coaches? The existing DWP staff???? C’mon that’s laughable. Finally..most of us have been thoroughly assessed already by healthcare professionals for PIP/ LCWRA.. who is going to overturn these findings? It can’t just be a minion in a local job centre? At so many stages these ‘reforms’ don’t hold water.
