Upcoming changes to benefits

Before my health issues started (head on car crash with drunk driver then a year later randomly assaulted on street by a drunk resulting in head injury) I studied Economics, so can see how the bill is rocketing, and how a government would want to control. However, I've not heard once what the government think is causing it. Cuts to fuel allowance, assisted dying, advance from 28/29 to now for ESA to UC transition, and now this, it sounds like a conspiracy theory that the government actively want to attack the vulnerable, but unfortunately they seem completely serious.

Hello there I just this month be award pip for Daly living and mobility Daly low mobility high IV not even had my 1st payment yet and my Daly was given to me for my mental health issues but I see on the news today about they going to cut people with mental health issues and as my payment is set for the 31 of march and they having a meeting on the 23 of march could I lose my 1st payment and the 4 years they just awarded for? Please put my mind to rest on this as it s was a long and stressful time just to get approved just to have it took away before it even as began

Was the plan the whole time to have something to u-turn on, as in the PIP freeze, so they can say they did something good while they continue to go through with the worse parts of these cuts?

They are using the pip freeze "u turn" as an easy method to fool people into thinking they're not going to bring in cuts. The freeze to pip inflation only added upto £30-£40 Cuts in future 2026 payments. The cuts to LCWRA are far worse it could be upto 34% if not more cuts it could be -£128 a month or if its cut entirely thats the full £416 gone per month! They will change the criteria and force people off LCWRA and PIP!

Exactly this people,wake up and smell the coffee it's a headline graber, government back down on disable benefit cuts, when the reality is it can push forward,with the charge to who now qualifies for Pip and ESA , as mentions it was always their plan

It's a start, but there's still going to be a big fight to come on their other proposals.

This was 1 element though that in theory I thought they would have been able to change effectively immediately from next year. Whereas changing PIP eligibility is going to require legislation and take years, and likely face legal challenges, where it's unlikely to remain as whatever they unveil next week.

There's also no mention of whatever this plan is to cut people on LCWRA, which is going to have a lot of crossover, and is still completely awful.

It is good news that a lot of Labour MPs are not happy though, including cabinet members. There are likely many that realise the damage this will do to their party, as this is the sort of thing that you'll see a list in 5 years of Labour MPs who voted for these cuts. Many also likely will fear losing their seats if they aren't seen to oppose this.

I think incompetence usually much better explains the actions of politicians than sadism or psychosis. They certainly haven't embarked on a policy which would likely do their party immense electoral harm because they know what they're doing. But let's leave that one there.
