Big push back by Labour MP's against Rachel Reeves's impending, savage disability cuts.
Looks like Reeves is having to row back on the PIP Freeze ☺️

Was the plan the whole time to have something to u-turn on, as in the PIP freeze, so they can say they did something good while they continue to go through with the worse parts of these cuts?

I get the contribution bases esa at 138 a week are they planning on taking the 40 a week away I have a neurological condition or is the cuts only for people on universal credit income based

They are using the pip freeze "u turn" as an easy method to fool people into thinking they're not going to bring in cuts. The freeze to pip inflation only added upto £30-£40 Cuts in future 2026 payments. The cuts to LCWRA are far worse it could be upto 34% if not more cuts it could be -£128 a month or if its cut entirely thats the full £416 gone per month! They will change the criteria and force people off LCWRA and PIP!

Maybe its time for disabled people to take to the streets on mass demonstrations against Rachel Rubbish and Starmegeddon's ransacking of the disability benefit system !

Exactly this people,wake up and smell the coffee it's a headline graber, government back down on disable benefit cuts, when the reality is it can push forward,with the charge to who now qualifies for Pip and ESA , as mentions it was always their plan

Targeting the disabled is the lowest of the low.
This Labour Government has already declared that the National Health Service England will be no more.
You wonder what Nye Bevan would have made of this Labour Lot ?

It's a start, but there's still going to be a big fight to come on their other proposals.
This was 1 element though that in theory I thought they would have been able to change effectively immediately from next year. Whereas changing PIP eligibility is going to require legislation and take years, and likely face legal challenges, where it's unlikely to remain as whatever they unveil next week.
There's also no mention of whatever this plan is to cut people on LCWRA, which is going to have a lot of crossover, and is still completely awful.
It is good news that a lot of Labour MPs are not happy though, including cabinet members. There are likely many that realise the damage this will do to their party, as this is the sort of thing that you'll see a list in 5 years of Labour MPs who voted for these cuts. Many also likely will fear losing their seats if they aren't seen to oppose this.

I think incompetence usually much better explains the actions of politicians than sadism or psychosis. They certainly haven't embarked on a policy which would likely do their party immense electoral harm because they know what they're doing. But let's leave that one there.

Taking risks and electoral suicide are not the same thing. Sir Keir is off to a disastrous start and RR is already the ex-chancellor in waiting. They will likely lose an upcoming by-election despite a pretty large majority eight months ago.
More a circus act than Bond villains.

Not really. Almost by definition, it would never cross their minds how much they were unaware of. And the reasons you'd take a job that would likely involve running the country are obvious.

one thing that’s clear - our community backlash is somewhat hitting (not sure if it’s actually making a mark or we are just having the impact of an annoying fly)
but let’s keep up the pressure
prehaps Gov still don’t respect us or find us annoying but we’ve only been at it a week
Let’s see if opinions shift after 12, 26, 52+ weeks of similar continuous pressure
gov has underestimated stubbornness and obsessiveness of disabled as a group of ppl imo

a possible pip freeze was the least of our worries (don’t get affected by a freeze if you can’t get the award in the first place)
Don’t mistake a plastic twig for an olive branch!
