Big push back by Labour MP's against Rachel Reeves's impending, savage disability cuts.

Looks like Reeves is having to row back on the PIP Freeze ☺️

Was the plan the whole time to have something to u-turn on, as in the PIP freeze, so they can say they did something good while they continue to go through with the worse parts of these cuts?

They are using the pip freeze "u turn" as an easy method to fool people into thinking they're not going to bring in cuts. The freeze to pip inflation only added upto £30-£40 Cuts in future 2026 payments. The cuts to LCWRA are far worse it could be upto 34% if not more cuts it could be -£128 a month or if its cut entirely thats the full £416 gone per month! They will change the criteria and force people off LCWRA and PIP!

Maybe its time for disabled people to take to the streets on mass demonstrations against Rachel Rubbish and Starmegeddon's ransacking of the disability benefit system !

Exactly this people, wake up and smell the coffee it's a headline graber, government back down on disable benefit cuts, when the reality is it can push forward, with the charge to who now qualifies for Pip and ESA , as mentions it was always their plan

They think they can do what they like because they are the government so can push legislation through and in that regards make laws and repel them. Most things push through like Theresa mays act on wanting access to everyone personal data that Labour have asked for and Labour put through no idea about that and that's just one of many. They refer the public to be dumb and let the superiors do the important things like ruining the Country.

This particular one they have no choice but to press release because it directly impacts public so no choice.

What Liz Kendall is basically saying in a nutshell is the powers to be do not believe anyone is really disabled or sick and Pip is not difficult to claim and medical experts and assessments do not stop people taking the mickey so now unless you are in a coma you must work and not rely on the state anymore "life on benefits is not allowed" so is say even those in a coma would eventually be at risk of having life machine switched off.

I read her words and unless it's an imposter or made up The State wants to abolish the welfare State regardless of whether or not you are in need. She also goes on to parrot word for word what IDS said years ago and others before her.

I actually don’t know how anyone can get away with claiming PIP if they don’t have a genuine reason to - there really can’t be much money wasted on that or fraud there?!

The whole process is so regimented and undignified etc for genuinely disabled people - I wish I could win the ****ing lottery so I didn’t have to ever endure or claim it.

Of course they were already picking one of at a time over the years anyway but this is more I guess direct we'll as direct as they can be

most disabled people can’t take to the streets that’s why they target us - because we only have a few charities looking out for us.

Targeting the disabled is the lowest of the low.

This Labour Government has already declared that the National Health Service England will be no more.

You wonder what Nye Bevan would have made of this Labour Lot ?

It's a start, but there's still going to be a big fight to come on their other proposals.

This was 1 element though that in theory I thought they would have been able to change effectively immediately from next year. Whereas changing PIP eligibility is going to require legislation and take years, and likely face legal challenges, where it's unlikely to remain as whatever they unveil next week.

There's also no mention of whatever this plan is to cut people on LCWRA, which is going to have a lot of crossover, and is still completely awful.

It is good news that a lot of Labour MPs are not happy though, including cabinet members. There are likely many that realise the damage this will do to their party, as this is the sort of thing that you'll see a list in 5 years of Labour MPs who voted for these cuts. Many also likely will fear losing their seats if they aren't seen to oppose this.

This is why if they don't backtrack on the rest of it in the green paper where a hard backlash from us happens and we accept things like 25% or 50% off

Lcwra and tinkering if that is present it needs to pushed back because that's simply a slower way of fazing out benefits so we must really read between the lines if necessary. Same with tightening of PIP. The Tory proposals were defeated but these are much worse.

True! But in comparison to some other papers they are pretty reliable

I think incompetence usually much better explains the actions of politicians than sadism or psychosis. They certainly haven't embarked on a policy which would likely do their party immense electoral harm because they know what they're doing. But let's leave that one there.

Sure they would if they are millionaires or nearly Sir Keir is a multi millionaire Rachel Reeves and her husband and Liz Kendall and her husband have amazing amount of revenue. Between them. Its not like the key figures rely solely on an mps salary . They can afford to take risks and walk away unnamed if it doesn't pay off. It's thr mps that solely rely on their mp salaries that can't. Before them millionaire the right honorable Cam and multimillionaire Sunak and least we forget multimillionaire Tony Blair.
