Has anyone used their own private, care assessment done by a private OT instead of going through the councils adult care to receive adaptions for things like a downstairs bedroom extension and wet room

I have been told that a wheelchair platform lift to raise me 3 feet to my back door will cost me £15,000 - that appears to be excessive (the house is built on a slope) Is that an accurate price?
