Thanks. You will need to make sure that you and your appointee are there during the appointment.  It will be a representative from DWP that will visit.

It's a very simple process. They will ask you if you agree to the appointee and then ask the appointee some questions. Your appointee with then need to sign to agree that they will be responsible for your benefit claim, this includes filling out forms, receiving all letters, answer questions for assessments and receiving the money into their bank, if you're awarded. If awarded they must then act in your best interests with the money they receive on your behalf.

I've been through this for my daughter back in 2017.

Has the appointee been set up now?

No i haven’t cos I got another appointment come in the post but this time my coach is going to be called at the same time so I’m hoping that it’s going to help cos I just want it done now so I can stop thinking about it. Do you think it will go ok? I’m no good at telling people how I deal with things.

Ideally, if an appointee is needed then the assessment should not be allowed to go ahead. Your first assessment was stopped because it was noted that you're unable to manage your own claim. I'm very surprised that the assessment is going ahead without the appointee being set up first.

Once the appointee is set up then it will be their responsibility to answer the questions on your behalf.

When I spoke to someone at the DWP they said that maybe I just needed to do it with someone with me for support cos I don’t need someone to look after my money cos I’ve got my own bank account I just need help with the questions and forms and my coach said that she would help me with that. Capita sent me the new appointment.

In a previous comment you said that someone from DWP was coming to visit to set up the appointee, did this happen?

When I called the DWP after my 1st assessment they said someone would call and make an appointment to visit but then I got the new appointment letter so I called DWP and said I’d do the assessment cos my coach said she would join the call so I’m not having the visit now

@Moana Other than your coach, have you got someone to be with you during the assessment for support?

Hi I don’t have any body else but having my coach on the call helped. The assessment is done now and it was about 1hr she asked about each of my diagnosis and then just a few questions but only on a couple of the questions that are on the form I filled in. Do you think it’s a good thing that she didn’t ask me much? I thought they would ask something from each of the questions.

I'm glad it's all done for you. I hope you hear back soon :)

Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. Depending what you put of the form too. They may feel like it has been answered.

Thank you I’m glad it’s done now so I can stop worrying about doing it so now I’ll just wait to hear from them. Thank you all so much for your help and support through this. I feel so tired and it’s been an emotional day so going to try to have a quiet night.

Thank you yes the quiet night helped. I haven’t had a decision yet I had a text to say that they had received my written report but I don’t know how long it will be before I hear a decision? I guess it’s just to wait now.

Up to 12 weeks after the report was returned.

It’s hard waiting and not knowing what the decision is going to be and 12 weeks is such a long time.
