Back payments

That sounds correct to me. You can’t receive the whole amount because you already had an award to start with. If you received the whole amount then they would be paying you twice.1
-
Thank you. I just thought the backdated pip and the back dated difference between standard and enhanced would be paid altogether until they said that.0
-
I don’t understand what you mean. If they are paying the difference between your old award and the new award then you will receive that payment first as a lump sum.Your new 4 weekly payments will follow as normal after that.0

I was getting standard living and now I’m going to get enhanced so the the amount I will be owed is what the difference is between the high rate and low rate I think it’s round about £30 a week so I’ve worked that out then worked out how much mobility I would be owed from September until the end of July so for both it worked out just over double what they are putting in my bank on Thursday. The lady said the payment I am getting on Thursday is the backdated mobility and I will get the backdated living I’m owed on a different date but the don’t have the date for that0

That makes no sense to receive the mobility payment separately to the daily living part. Usually money owed is paid as a lump sum. The only time this won't happen is if they've asked you if you can manage a lump sum (they do sometimes) and you've said you can't, so they will then pay it is smaller amounts.

Hello xtrasmall78
I hope this might help answer your question. Thursday, August 3rd, 2023, I received a text from DWP letting me know that my review application had been completed. The message said I should expect to receive a letter in the next two weeks. When I got back home from work today, I found the letter waiting for me.
To give you some context, I completed and sent back my review form in March 2022. I have now been approved for an enhanced level of support for both daily living and mobility previously I only received standard daily living nothing at all for mobility.
The letter outlines the process for settling the owed payments dating back to March 2022. This will be done in two stages. The initial payment, scheduled for August 8th, will cover the disparity between the standard daily living allowance and the enhanced rate. Following that, on August 9th, they will disburse the owed amount for the additional mobility support. Then money paid four weekly as before.
I have to admit, after waiting patiently for the review process and receiving the text confirming its completion just last Thursday, I'm pleasantly surprised by how swiftly things have progressed. It's safe to say I'm still in a bit of disbelief; I truly didn't anticipate this outcome.
I'd also like to take this opportunity to convey my heartfelt appreciation to Poppy. Throughout the span of many months, she consistently offered me invaluable guidance that was both clear and accurate. From providing insights into timeframes to offering advice on how to navigate the review process, her assistance has been truly invaluable.

I'm very happy to see that you've been awarded Enhanced for both parts, that's fantastic news! Thank you for the valuable information you've given too about the money they owed you. This is the first time i've ever known them do this so this will come in very useful to advise other members, if it happens again.Last but not least, thank you for those kind words, they do mean a lot. When someone like yourself appreciates the advice i give then it makes the time i spend here even more worth it. Even more so when they've been awarded successfully after the advice i gave!I hope you'll be able to relax a little now that it's all done with. Don't forget to treat yourself to something nice with the money they owe you!

Hello Poppy,
Just wanted to verify your correctness. Even though the letter mentioned two different payment dates, this morning I checked my bank account. They actually paid the backpay all at once in a single sum. I believe their rationale behind the letter was to ensure clarity on what was paid in arrears for mobility and living allowance.
In the past, I might have treated myself to a budget-friendly trip to Europe, but unfortunately, I'm no longer able to obtain travel insurance. I will, however, be treating my car to the recommended advisory repairs that were listed after its MOT last Friday. The funds will undoubtedly provide assistance when it comes to the impending winter fuel expenses. I'm confident that my energy provider will greatly value this unexpected bonus.
I'm just preparing for work now. I have to get up early as it takes me quite a while to get ready these days. Once again, I appreciate all your support. I genuinely enjoy reading all your posts and your special brand of magic translating the DWP jargon into everyday language which offers hope to many Scope members.

That’s what I thought too Poppy. But then I thought maybe it was because I can’t manage budgeting decisions they’re doing it this way. But with MW123’s comment I’ll see what the letter says I’m just worried I won’t get that back payment and having to fight for it I really wouldn’t be able to cope with that.0

I think paying for repairs to be done on your car is a very good idea, at least you will be able to stay mobile. Don't forget with the Enhanced mobility, you'll be able to claim free road tax. https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/1143399/ins216-how-to-apply-for-free-disabled-tax-pdf.pdfThank you once again for those kind and thoughtful words, i really do appreciate it!

Sorry to jump on this post, not sure if you will remember what I said to you @poppy123456 about my review taking nearly to years but I got no back pay even though my rates were increased but pip only paying me from when they made their decision on my review July 23.
How can pip choose who gets back pay and who doesn't this seems so wrong.0 -

I have no idea how they decide who receives money owed and who doesn't. Under normal times a review started by DWP there's no money owed and it starts from when a decision is made.

Think I might email my local MP as there is something so wrong in the way PIP are handling reviews.0
-
There's no consistency to the way they are doing this at all. It seems like pot luck and some receive money owed, others don't. Did you ring PIP as i advised on another thread? There's certainly no harm in contacting your local MP. You'll need to tell them exactly what's happened and how long you waited for a decision. Also mention the total mess they made on your first assessment. Tell them had a decision been made earlier then you would have been entitled to all the money. As it was delayed you lost out on a huge amount of money and all because of their delays! https://www.parliament.uk/get-involved/contact-an-mp-or-lord/contact-your-mp/

Hello anth22
I am truly sorry to read that your award was not backdated. I share your sentiment and find this situation quite unjust.
Have another look at your award letter, particularly in the section labelled "My Decision." In my letter, there is a clear explanation for why the award date was retrospectively applied and why they changed the descriptors previously chosen.
Does your letter state why your award date was chosen? I have no understanding of the PIP system, but is there any possibility for you to challenge this decision?
I shared the results of my award to offer hope to those who are still waiting, as I personally understand the lengthy and stressful waiting period. While I cannot undo my post, I truly wish I could, especially after hearing about your experience. In light of what you've been through, my post seems remarkably insensitive, and I sincerely apologise for any distress it may have caused you or anyone else. I want to assure you that causing upset to anyone was never my intention.

@MW123 no it's OK you have done nothing wrong and noway am I cross with you.
Here's my decision what pip wrote I find it really strange that they increased my award but from only the date they made the decision even though I've been very ill since my review was sent back in November 2021.
