    Hi anth22

It is good to know that your MP is looking into this for you.   At this point, I'm beginning to question whether your initial award was accurate, and it's possible that there was an error made giving me a backdated payment.

I will retain the lump sum I received and refrain from spending it. I am detecting a disconcerting potential for this payment to have been issued in error to me, and I'm harbouring concerns about a potential request for its return at a later point.

Could someone please provide me with the phone number for the PIP or DWP department responsible for handling payments, along with their operating hours? I have a feeling  that their opening times might align with my office hours.  I might consider taking a day’s holiday from work to contact them.  Or do you think it best to put it in writing?  If so does anyone have the address?

I really need clarity regarding this matter, as the uncertainty for me now surrounding the money is causing me distress, especially as I feel there is now a strong possibility that it was issued in error.  Any  assistance is greatly appreciated.

The backdated money you received wouldn't have been paid in error. As i advised previously, some have received money owed for a higher award and some haven't. I do not know the reason why or how they are deciding who receives it and who doesn't. It's been this way since the backlogs for reviews increased substantially.

If on the very unlikely chance it was an error then you will be able to keep the money because it will be an official error made by DWP.

The number to contact PIP is..

    Personal Independence Payment (PIP)

    Telephone: 0800 121 4433
    Textphone: 0800 121 4493
Relay UK (if you cannot hear or speak on the phone): 18001 then 0800 121 4433
British Sign Language (BSL) video relay service if you’re on a computer - find out how to use the service on mobile or tablet
Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm

Please also be aware that when ringing PIP you're speaking to someone from a call centre only. Not the most reliable place to ask for advice.

    Hello Poppy

Recognising your perspective that engaging in discussions with call centre personnel might not be the most reliable method for seeking guidance, I have considered your viewpoint and have  directly contacted the Minister for Work and Pensions in order to attain a clearer understanding of this issue.

I received the standard acknowledgment that my email was received. Nevertheless, I do not anticipate a response as their summer break continues until early September. Poppy, I am thankful for your guidance on this matter.

Personally my advice would be to contact your local MP if you want to send a message or make a complaint about a Governmental department because they have a direct contact with those departments and it is there job to work and help there constituants with problems like yours. You would have much more success contacting your local MP about this. To do that you can use the followig websites bellow. You will need to include your home address and postcode so your MP can confirm that you live withing there constituancy. To search for your MP just put in your postcode into the search box. https://www.writetothem.com or https://members.parliament.uk/members/Commons
    I hope that helps

They are saying that an explanation was provided on the reason why they didn't backdate your award when you rang on 10th August.

DWP are saying that you can request the Mandatory Reconsideration on the decision not to backdate the PIP review decision to an earlier date. Another decision maker will look at your claim and come to another decision.

If you do decide to go ahead with this then you need to make sure you tell them that you're happy with the actual award itself and you're just requesting the MR for the decision not to backdate it to an earlier time.

As i advised in a previous comment, there doesn't seem to be any consistency with the rules for backdating due to backlogs. Some do and other don't. In normal times for reviews it's from the date the decision was made, if the review was started by DWP.

I'm one of those lucky enough to have had a back payment after a review.

I had a paper based one from a DM.  When I first started claiming PIP I was on Enhanced DL, then after my first review went down to Standard because my wife didn't come into the room with me given as the reason ... the DM doing my latest review asked why I didn't request a MR as it was his opinion I was entitled to Enhanced back then, so he was back dating my new Enhanced 8 months to the initial review date

Said it before and still think it ... all a lottery as to who looks at your papers IMO

    And shouldn't be so.
