I have told my doctor on numerous occasions but he just says he’s sorry I feel this way and tries to help me with my lack of sleep and says it will help lift my mood

Hi @allisonnixon27 - I'm sending the following link hoping it may be helpful as you can refer yourself to get some services: https://www.nhs.uk/mental-health/talking-therapies-medicine-treatments/talking-therapies-and-counselling/nhs-talking-therapies/
Also please try this breathing exercise which also helps reduce stress: https://www.cheshire-epaige.nhs.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/Diaphragmatic-breathing-techniques.pdf   practice it when you feel OK so you get the hang of it & can then use it when needed.

It sounds like panic at the thought of getting help. It may sound strange but the feelings of upset and depression can become comforting when it becomes the only staple in your life and the thought of addressing it can be distressing. It's also because it means admitting to yourself there is a problem you need help with. This isn't something you should work through alone. Where are you trying to look for help at the moment?

Hi @allisonnixon27, it can be really hard to ask for help. I imagine it's taken a lot of courage just for you to ask here, thank you for doing so. We're here to help you find support, I'm going to post some links to services where you can get help. I struggled myself with feeling like a burden to others and avoiding help, eventually I realised that people do want to help. We support each other.

Scope has an advice page specifically about helping to manage mental health Managing mental health | Disability charity Scope UK.

You can ring the Samaritans for free on 116 123 at anytime.

If talking on the phone is too much then you can text SHOUT to 85258. It's a text service that provides mental health support

    The above are 24/7 services.

Out of hours, you can also call SANEline between 4.30pm and 10.30pm every evening on 0300 304 7000. This is an out-of-hours service for the evenings.

Finally, Mind have an urgent help section

Is there a second doctor at your GP services for you to see about referrals or have you visited all of them and none have taken it seriousy?
