Hello and morning

I’m receiving PIP and my wife The Carers Allowance and I’m nearing my pension age end of the year . Will I and my wife continue receiving the above two benefits after the Pension age .

Thank you in advance

Your PIP will continue for as long as you remain entitled to it. If your wife is under state pension age then her carers allowance will continue.

I note from a previous thread that you were claiming New style ESA, is this still correct? If so then this will end once you reach state pension age because it's a working age benefit. You will need to make sure you claim your state pension.

We sent a review form and they sent the following msg:

Hello from Independent Assessment Services. We conduct Personal Independence Payment (PIP) assessments for the Department for Work and Pensions DWP. This is for information purposes only, to let you know that we are managing your PIP assessment. We will look at the available evidence and will contact you with an appointment if we need to have a consultation with you. You can find information about the service we provide at https://www.mypipassessment.co.uk. You do not need to contact us.

we then received a phone call from IAS but the carer was unavailable to talk to . They tried more than once but the carer was unwell to speak to. Now we have traveled abroad to see our parents. In the meantime. The health professional sent the msg to pip .All they wanted was a quick chat to the carer so they can decide on the outcome without consultation.

About your PIP review. The health professional has sent us their report.\nWe will make a decision on your PIP, but it may take 6 weeks before you hear from us.\nYou will continue to get PIP while your award is being reviewed.\nYou only need to contact us if your circumstances change.

can someone explain what it means please

    thank you in advance

@dominique2 The Healthcare Professional has tried to contact to clarify certain information, as there was no answer then they have used discretion and wrote a report anyway, which has now been sent back to PIP. The last message means exactly how it reads, PIP will continue until a new decision has been made on the ongoing review and you should hear back within 6 weeks (although this can be up to 12). Keep an eye out on a letter in the post.

Thank you very much for the swift response.
    It was very much appreciated

Does that mean that there will be a consultation or, plus why would they send the reports without consultation. Or does it mean I can lose out on my PIP
    Thank you in advance

No, there won’t be a consultation. Something called a paper-based assessment has taken place here, these are rare to have and means that the assessor has enough information available to write a report without speaking to you. For reference, these are seen as a good thing and very few people don’t get awarded after a paper-based assessment although I of course can’t say this will happen to you.

Keep an eye out for a new decision letter in the post, you may also receive a text message when your review is complete too.

    Bless you and thank you

I’m just panicking as I may NOT receive or my PIP will be cancelled.

I’m sorry for the inconvenience caused to you by asking these questions

The letter will take around 6-12 weeks if I’m right.
Text message when my review is complete, are these two separate things

    thank you

Hi @dominique2 - You will certainly get a decision letter, & this can take anywhere up to 12 weeks for you to receive it. As bg844 says, you may get a text message (to say that a decision has been made, so you'd get that first). Sorry you have been unwell, I hope you'll be feeling much better soon.

Thank you ever so much .
I am just afraid that they might stop PIP altogether and that’s not good for my health as I have problems with mental health.
Would we able to ask for a copy of the report they’ve sent to PIP , if so, how soon?
    thank you in advance

We left our SIM cards at home whilst we are abroad and our family says we had couple of “ withheld “ missed phone calls on Tuesday and yesterday ( Wednesday) and then the following  message on Wednesday around 4pm

I am afraid that they might be saying we have stopped our PIP 🤔

    Thank you

You can request a copy of the report now if you wish although I do need to make you aware that doing this can cause so much unnecessary Anxiety. The assessors report is a recommendation only and any decision on a benefit is made by a Decision Maker at DWP.

That's not correct, PIP will continue until you have received a new decision letter telling you otherwise (and that is unlikely to happen in this case too). I know it's difficult but it'd be good if you could spend some time focusing on something else, until PIP next write to you then there's nothing more to do.

If you still wish to ask for a report, you will need to phone PIP:
    0800 121 4433
    Monday to Friday
    9am-5pm
    (Option 6).

We have received a letter from PIP of their decision. Our PIP will finish on November 30 and we have to put a new claim in. We had been on the enhanced rate for both of the components since December 2020 and they did not assess us and ( the health professional) wrote back to the PIP case manager and now this . I don’t think I can go through this as I’m not mentally stable .

@dominique2, put in a Mandatory Reconsideration form as soon as you can. If you're having difficulty in doing this I'd highly recommend contacting a local benefits adviser, such as your local Citizen's Advice Bureau to help you with it.

I know this feels quite devastating but there are other avenues and there is support there for you.

Hi @dominique2 - give yourself a few days if you wish, & then think about doing a written Mandatory Reconsideration, where another decision maker will look at everything again. This would be faster than starting a new claim, so I would ignore them saying you need to make a new claim.
I feel that something has definitely gone wrong, as with a paper based assessment (rather than having a phone assessment), then usually it's a good sign with a positive outcome. You can put this right by doing a Mandatory Reconsideration.
With your Mandatory Reconsideration you should say where you think you should have got points, & why giving a couple of recent, detailed examples as to the difficulty you face for each applicable activity/descriptor, i.e. when did it happen, where, what happened, did anyone see this, & were there any consequences to attempting/doing an activity such as increased pain, fatigue or breathlessness?
Say if you can't do an activity 'reliably,' i.e. safely, to an acceptable standard, repeat as often as one would reasonably expect, or if it takes you much longer than someone without a disability.
Put your name & National Insurance number on each page. Keep a copy, & get a free Certificate of Posting from your Post Office when sending it off.
Please come back with any questions; you can do this.

Shall we ask for the report first and then the Mandatory Reconsideration form.

    Thank you

I'm going to disagree with this. Yes, usually a paper based assessment is a good sign, however it's not always the correct award. I've seen it happen many times where a claimant has had a paper based assessment and not been happy with the award so they request the MR.

Shall we ask for the report first and then the Mandatory Reconsideration form.

    Thank you

You do not need the assessment report to request the MR. Doing so will likely cause a distraction to what you should be doing and doing this will not get the correct PIP award. Concentrate on those real world examples mentioned by chiarieds above.
