You do not need the assessment report to request the MR. Doing so will likely cause a distraction to what you should be doing and doing this will not get the correct PIP award. Concentrate on those real world examples mentioned by chiarieds above.

    Hello again

Thank you all for the wonderful support throughout. We are still abroad and what awaits us on the letter is still unknown but on the phone we were told that the benefit would stop in November 23.

Do we use the MR available on the website https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/5a8eedbded915d1ddaadb614/if-you-disagree-with-a-decision-made-by-dwp.PDF

Fill it in or request one ?

    Thank  you

    Dom

You can use that form but you will need to download it and print it off. Or you can simply write a letter.

Hi again @dominique2 - may I just ask a few questions about something that's been bothering me?
Were you abroad when the IAS tried to contact your carer, who was unwell?
Might the carer have said you were abroad, or going abroad for so many weeks?
How many weeks have you been abroad, & did you inform the DWP if you were going to be away for more than 4 weeks? Thank you.

Just to point out that PIP allows 13 weeks abroad. Carers allowance is 4 weeks. https://www.gov.uk/claim-benefits-abroad/disability-benefits
You do make a very good point though.

Yes, I'm aware of how long you can be abroad as I read SSregs, etc. about this for another member last month who had experienced difficulty, tho unfortunately they haven't come back to say if the matter was resolved.
However it does say in PIP decision letters that you must tell the DWP ''if you leave or intend to leave the country for more than 4 weeks'' (tho I don't think they should say this).

We have received a letter from PIP of their decision. Our PIP will finish on November 30 and we have to put a new claim in.

What I’m confused about is why is PIP continuing until 30th November? If there’s a refusal after a review then usually PIP will stop and not continue.

DWP were informed when we were abroad. Ie , the carers department and also PIP. My husband was not with us as he was unwell to travel. He travelled at a later date. Whilst he was at home he received calls from IAS but he’s unable to communicate as he has problems with his memory and due to his brain injury whilst back. His carer at the time was my cousin who was unable to talk to IAS as he was working.
Later on in the month in September he joined me abroad in Turkey.
    Everything is above board
    hope this helps

It doesn’t help me nor my husband as my father has passed away now . And before he passed on , we rang for an outcome for the paper assessment. We were told that it would stop on November 30. It was the caseworker who was confused and she wanted to talk to me but I never received a call on my mobile.
    It’s very very confusing.

I’m sorry that I sound very vague and confused. I’ve lost a dad and my husband is unwell on both enhanced elements. We should be home soon , we’ll under the 13 week period.

I don’t know how to thank the community on here as you’ve been very very supportive throughout.

Like I mentioned earlier, there’s been 3 letters from the DWP since we have been abroad. ( from PO Box : 585, Belfast in a white envelope) 🤔

I'm assuming that the 30th November was when the PIP was due to end? Thinking more about this, i'm also wondering if because you told them you were abroad, the 30th November is the date the PIP ends if you don't return home.

I've just through the whole thread to make sure i hadn't forgottten anything or missed something. I see you had a letter to say your PIP would end on 30th November but you said it was the decision letter. I'm not convinced it's the actual decision letter and it's possible that there's been some mix up some where.

You mentioned in a previous comment today that there's 3 letters waiting for you at home. I'm now wondering if one of those is the actual decision letter?

Do you have someone at home that can open them for you and tell you what it says? I don't want you going ahead and requesting the MR for the decision is there's no need to do this. If there's an actual award and you're happy with it, then there maybe no need to challenge the decision.

Also to add, i'm sorry for your loss!!

I'm very sorry to read about your father. Please don't worry, I'm not suggesting for a moment that anything was wrong on your part, rather possibly the DWP, as another member had their PIP stopped due to holidaying abroad, but not for more than 13 weeks at any one time.
We all just want the best for you & your husband; it's a little confusing to us too. Safe journey home, & kindly let us all know how you and your husband are doing.

Just to add further, because i didn't see you last comment before i commented. As you'll be home soon i'd advise you to wait to request the MR so that you can read the letters that are waiting for you. This way, you'll know exactly what's happened.

Please do return and let us know, if possible please.

Hi @dominique2, I don't have anything to add to the already stirling advice the other regulars have given you, but I just wanted to say I'm so sorry to hear about your father.

Yes, I've been missing comments too, as we were all replying in a short space of time. I couldn't agree more with poppy in that you need to see what those letters say first. Hopefully these will shed more light on the PIP claim.

Are you still paying or getting a council tax bill etc?

I heard a case where someone had been anonymously reported for fraud and DWP accessed immigration data and found the claimant to be abroad for almost a year.

DWP are not responsible for Council Tax (though, i'm sure you know that). If claiming CTR you can be away from home temporary for up to 13 weeks and your CTR will still continue. This timeframe resets everytime you come home. https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/scotland/benefits/help-if-on-a-low-income/help-with-your-council-tax-council-tax-reduction-s/change-in-circumstance-s/council-tax-reduction-temporary-absence-from-home-s/

I myself have only been abroad few weeks. The same time I informed the carers department and they paid me for 4 weeks only. Husband just joined me recently in September. I’m sure the DWP share the same systems and when someone goes abroad, it triggers the alarm to the DWP. Honesty is the best policy. As far as the 30 November deadline, the lady read out that the benefit stops at that time . She put us on hold and the caseworker was on the phone who was confused and said she would contact me, but that never materialised.

They do have the same system but don't always share information. I'm still not convinced that his PIP has been refused after the review. His PIP stopping from 30th November really makes no sense because once refused, it will stop completely, it doesn't just carry on.
