Good morning all, I hope you're enjoying your weekend! I for one am not looking to the weather getting warmer again.

We did so much gardening yesterday, I'll need to try and take pictures of our potato harvest and our berry patch (it needed a lot of pruning, they just won't stop growing). Our strawberries are starting to be a bit of a menace though and are beginning to spread a lot more than we thought they would. Those vines can travel!

Ooh, that sounds nice @Sandy_123. So did you just add pectin? The only jam I've ever made myself was plum jam. We cat sat at a friends house for 2 weeks while they were visiting family in South Africa and they had a plum tree in the garden that was ready for harvest. It was fun, we should try to make some jams from our own berries maybe…

Morning @Jimm_Scope strawberries will take over if you let them I think keeping them in pots controls them better.

No only used lemon juice that's it in the blueberries, you can add sugar too but I'm leaving sugars out as much as possible. It also thickens it self up.

Morning @Amberpearl hope it warms up later by you

Ah, I know some fruits naturally contain pectin don't they? I'm forgetting that. I think it's only certain fruits you need to add pectin to help it turn into proper thickened jam.

Blueberries you don't need to. I've got strawberries to use up so might do those too

Am I right in saying that you don't need pectin for strawberry jam?

I prefer marmalade. I bake sausages and in the last ten minutes. I lather them with marmalade. They are scrummy. I also put runny honey on my roasted parsnips.

I should say I used to do this. I haven't cooked anything for years. We have a new oven and hob. I don't have a clue how to use them. They are deliberately made to confuse me. What is a convection oven or an induction hob? I may have that the wrong way round, but that's why it's all so confusing. We had to buy special saucepans for our hob, how ridiculous.

My husband can't cook so we live on ready meals. He just microwaves everything. I can only eat lasagne or a jacket potato and coleslaw. I'm so malnourished. I would love to go out for a good meal. If I get my PIP, having a good meal is on the top of my list.

A little girl will be your friend for life 🥳🎉💕

No it’s not a roast I think I it’s either a chicken or steak pie out off Marks and mash and veg.

I used to know the list of fruit that did and did not need pectin added. Some fruit naturally have enough pectin to make jam, while others need some pectin added to help it thicken.

I found this list on a website online, but I don't know how trustworthy it is 😂

Fruits that are high in pectin: Apples (unripe), Lemons, Limes, Plums, Gooseberries, Plums, Quince

Fruits that are low in pectin: Strawberries, Rhubarb, Raspberries, Pineapple, Blueberries, Cherries, Grapes, Peaches, Apples (ripe), Oranges

Oh best of luck with the jam @Lou67. Strawberries are one of my favourites, my partner planted them specifically for me actually 😋🍓

    Sandy-123,

In my day we didn't know what sex our babies would be. We first had a beautiful son, followed by a daughter. I remember buying the first dresses for my daughter, I was crying with joy.

We had the perfect pair. In those days baby clothes were quite boring, and you had to buy a lot of white for new born babies.

How wonderful that times have changed. I even had to use terry cotton nappies, my twin tub washing machine seemed as if it was always on.

Having to take care of new born babies is such a change in anybody's life, I'm so glad you are getting prepared. Are you excited?

    Nikkita 😀

Its for my granddaughter @Nikkita yes we were never told the baby's sex. A nice surprise at the end. But it's good to know to get prepared. Now I need a basket and does anyone know where to buy the clear wrap? going to put a big pink ribbon on it too

That's sounding great @Sandy_123! I'm going to have to hint to my friends that a hamper would be a good idea 😂

@Nikkita my son is almost 14 and my baby is due on Christmas Eve so I'm a bit nervous about doing the whole newborn thing again! That's sweet that you cried when you bought your daughter's first dresses ❤️ I can understand the emotion, girl's clothes are just adorable.
