How long does it usually take for UC to pay the LA the rent money? I'm currently in arrears which is bugging me a bit.

For my daughters rent UC pay it to our landlord on the same date she receives her UC. To be fair they’ve never been late paying it since she’s claimed help with the rent.

I think I'm worrying too soon as it is early in the morning and I doubt my account would update that fast considering I only received the UC payment today lol.

I did get an email from a "rent support officer" so I've sent them my statement as he requested it but the UC payment was correct.

The rent support officer got back to me, he said the council tax was all sorted out and that it would stay the same, he said it takes 24 - 48 hours for the rent to update, he also mentioned it being 53 weeks rent and said that I could pay at x amount or I could pay I think it was £59 but I already had almost £72 credit on the account before migrating to UC, plus if the council do the responsible tenant award again it'll be another £28 added on, however, I don't like my account being in arrears (it's fine atm, it's goes into arrears for about 2 weeks) but I really don't want to put £228 on the rent account either.

It shouldn't go against me should it?

I think I preferred it weekly. I'll get used to it.

For social/council housing tenants rent weeks start on a Monday and there's 53 Money in this tex year so yes, there will be a shortage of rent. I pay a small amount each month so by the end of the tax year I won't be in arrears.

It won't go against you because your UC is paid 1 month in arrears. I live with my daughter and we are both on the tenancy agreement so we pay 50% each. She claims UC so hers is paid monthly, which means we are usually in arrears for a while until it's paid. It's never been an issue. I still claim HB so mine is paid weekly.

That's a relief, I don't like being in arrears with bills and such, makes me quite anxious. I might pay the £59 just in case.

Ahh, that's confusing (for me at least lol). Yeah, my son receives UC and carers so is disregarded for rent and council tax.

Definitely preferred it weekly!

You're welcome. The reason you have no non dependant deductions in your housing element is because your PIP includes the daily living part.

Hello, me again, I have a couple of questions if someone can answer them for me, please :)

1. How do budgeting loans work if you're on UC? Is it the advance payment option and how long does it usually take when you request it?
2. Also, I'm thinking about asking for them to pay me fortnightly or however often then do pay it, I'm assuming that I request it in my journal? How likely is it that they'd grant my request?

For number two, yes you ask via Journal, I've not heard of anyone being refused.

A budgeting advance is the same as a budgeting loan when you were claiming legacy benefits. For this you will need to ring the helpline to apply. If you have an existing budgeting loan/advance you will need to pay that off before having another.

If I ask for fortnightly payments, does that affect the rent as well? (It's paid directly to my LA).

Sorry about the questions, but I'm considering asking because I'm too used to receiving payments every 2 weeks, I'm finding monthly a tad confusing and seem to be struggling with it a bit.

Would I be better off asking after I receive my next payment which I believe is on the 29th?

No it doesn't.

Rent paid directly to LL happens monthly, regardless if you have a separate arrangement to receive your UC twice a month instead of once.

It would be paid twice a month not fortnightly, as there are more than 4 weeks in a month 😊

Please also be aware that once the APA is set up you will receive half of your payment twice a month. This means that you’ll be waiting longer to start with because you will have already waited 1 month for your money and then you’ll only receive half, with the other half between 14 and 17 days later. For this reason it can be even more difficult to manage at first.

I'll give it some thought thank you, so if I requested it on the day I received my next payment (29th), how long roughly would I then be waiting for the next payment? UC really confuses me.
