Are the assessors incentivised to award zero points?

genuine question. I’ve not even had my assessment yet but I’ve read so many accounts of people saying the assessors reports contain inaccuracies (in words stronger than that!) even when the assessment was recorded that it makes me wonder why?

Could it be that the assessors are incentivised to score low? Does anyone know?

No one could ever confirm that to be honest. Even if that was their intention ( I’m not saying it is, just an assumption) they would never volunteer that information as they would be sued endlessly.

    My comments relate to PIP.

    Re incentivisation - I don't think so.

However, I do think there may be a lot of ignorance, incompetence and a lack of expertise amongst assessors in respect of functional impact of certain conditions and the interplay of symptoms when there are comorbidities etc.

The best way to counter this is to ensure/demonstrate you are the expert on yourself (which you should be) by:-

    1. Reading, understanding and implementing the guidance, both in respect of form filling and the assessment.

    2. Knowing everything there is to know about your limitations. That may sound self-evident but plenty of PIP claimants don't do "due diligence" on themselves.

It's more likely down to poor judgement and assumptions, which is still absolutely wrong.

I've always said assessments should be performed by an expert in that particular claimants problems.

    That sadly won't happen though.
