Mainstream

Hi, I had a bruising time getting my daughter into a specialist school that could implement her EHCP. Both her mainstream school and the LA failed her. I want to put in a formal complaint to let the school and LA know that their inaction was detrimental to my daughter forcing me to remove her. Her mainstream school admitted a significant number of children with SENs but seemed unable to support their needs. I still don't understand why a school would accept a child with an EHCP if they cannot implement it considering it is a legal requirement. Should I address my complaint to Ofsted? Thanks

Hi @Fats69
It sounds incredibly frustrating and upsetting to have gone through such a difficult experience trying to get your daughter's needs met. It's completely understandable that you want to make a formal complaint.
If you want to formally complain to a mainstream school, the school's website will usually have a complaints policy outlining the process and the steps you need to take to do so.
Similarly, your local authority should have formal complaint procedure information on their website if you want to do a formal complaint about the LA as well.
You can also inform OFSTED especially if you believe there are systemic SEN issues at the school by the Ofsted Parent View
If you're not happy with the Local Authority's response, you can complain to the Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman who investigates complaints about councils.
Hope this was helpful, please reach out if you would like further support or information.

Thank you for your suggestions. Will Ofsted do anything if a parent submits a comment?

Hi @Fats69
Not a problem, I hope it was useful!
What Ofsted may do when a parent submits a complaint can vary. They may decide to take action and other times possibly not as a parent complaint doesn't guarantee another inspection.
There is some good information on what Ofsted may be able to do if you do decide to make a formal complaint to Ofsted
Please reach out again if you have further questions or would like more support.
