Requested reasonable adjustment - got discharged.

Hi all,

Two questions for you.

One - Has anyone ever been discharged from an NHS service, simply for asking for a reasonable adjustment? If so, what was your experience and did you manage to sort it out/get the treatment you needed.

Two - Can anyone who's had to challenge the failure to provide a reasonable adjustment tell me what kind of solicitor I would need to get in touch with?

Been through the complaints procedure, and it's been a complete joke and their reason for discharging me is completely baseless as the adjustment isn't asking them for anything that's in any way difficult for the service.

Solicitors I've spoken with so far can't seem to decide if it's a medical/clinical negligence issue, or if it's a equality/disability rights issue. Law Service has been no help either, so I'm hoping to find someone here who might be able to offer some insight.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Have you asked ACAS for advice or signposting? I imagine there must be NHS disgruntled employee forums somewhere on the internet too. Good luck.

Hi @LenxLenx I initially read your post thinking you were an NHS employee but on re-reading I thinking you're a patient requesting reasonable adjustments.

I had reasonable adjustments made as an NHS employee (went to 3 days a week from 5 then offered 2 days a week due to continued sickness absences). The latter I was unable to do because of continued health problems and was dismissed. Occupational Health were helpful, particularly a Consultant Occupational Health Specialist. They were genuinely trying to help, my manager not so and was trying to manage me out from pretty much the start. If you're an employee and have been dismissed I would go to tribunal. I did not however I don't regret not doing so in my situation.

If you're a patient you could go to the Health Ombudsman. Or Healthwatch. I have no confidence in either but only made initial enquiries. I am in the process of being discharged from some services due to inability to get to appts due to health, never cancelled at the last minute. The 'reasonable adjustments' I requested were not rocket science.

My belief is it is the current pressures to get the waiting lists down that prevented me getting the reasonable adjustments as it all just keeps me on the waiting lists longer, skewing their figures/targets/processes.

Sorry If this doesn't help, it's just my opinion based on my experiences. Good luck to you and best wishes too.

hi there I'm a trainer from the Oliver Mcgowen Mandority Training for autism and learning disabilities and hospitals are supposed to make reasonable adjustments for those who need them. Can I ask what adjustments you need please?
