It is International Epilepsy Day today and this is a worldwide event dedicated to raising awareness and understanding about epilepsy.

It is a little bit different from the well known Purple day as International Epilepsy Day is a collaboration from the International League Against Epilepsy and the International Bureau for Epilepsy. It focuses on the global impact of epilepsy, promoting research and advocating for better access to care.

In comparison, Purple Day is a grassroots movement and it's main goal is to break the stigma surrounding epilepsy by wearing purple, encouraging visible support and promoting understanding within communities.

But both are really important days for raising awareness and understanding the condition!

Throughout this week, we''ll share more information and resources about epilepsy, have a chat and support each other on the community.

Epilepsy is a neurological condition that affects the brain and causes recurrent seizures. These seizures happen when there's a sudden burst of electrical activity in the brain. There are many different types of seizures and they can look very different from person to person.

For example, some people may have convulsions (tonic-clonic seizures) while others may have brief staring spells (absence seizures).

If your child has been diagnosed with epilepsy, then it's important to develop a treatment plan with their doctor. This might involve dietary changes, medication or other therapies.

Dealing with epilepsy can be tough for parents and carers but you're not alone! We will be exploring this topic of support and resources for parents and carers over the next few days.

For parents and carers, what information or support regarding epilepsy would be most valuable to you this week? Is there anything specific you would like to see on the community?
