Finding the right car for a disabled driver.

Hello,
I am exploring the option of purchasing my own car however, the more I look the more confused I become. And the prices! I cannot afford to get a Motability car.
Does anyone know of any support available that can help identify the type of vehicle and adaptions one might require, and how to source it? - Google does not seem very helpful so far. I need a WAV for a disabled driver and predict that I will need to enter the vehicle in my wheelchair.
Thank you, Rachael

Hi,
Even if you can't afford a Motability car, their website is still very useful for information. You can choose 'drive from wheelchair' when looking at the WAV options to show which vehicles are suitable. You will probably need a van for this purpose.
You may find a local Mobility specialist that offers vehicle adaption if not using the Motability scheme.
If it's the advance payment that prevents you using the Motability scheme, they do offer grants for that, depending on circumstances. I suspect that will be cheaper than buying one yourself and having it adapted. Unless you can find a used vehicle that has already been adapted, of course. Most Motability cars go to auction at the end of the lease, though I'm not sure whether WAV adaptions would be removed before that.
