I agree, it would be ok if they treated you with a little respect to start with.

Life is difficult for so many of us, I wish it wasn’t but it is and you just have to get through it best you can. I hope it all works out well for you.

New Style ESA is a fixed rate so everyone gets the same for that. The rates have literally just changed for this year at the beginning of April. I believe it will now be £281.10 every fortnight for those in the support group.

Then UC is the means-tested part that tops that up. I can't say how much UC you'll get without knowing full circumstances, age, relationship, etc, plus whether you got SDP. I'm now off for today but will be back in the morning.

And yes I also find it genuinely baffling that people think we choose benefits as a lifestyle with all the hassle and stress they cause!

"And yes I also find it genuinely baffling that people think we choose benefits as a lifestyle with all the hassle and stress they cause!"

I would give anything to be financially independent and not have to live with the constant fear of losing everything. The stress of dealing with benefits/DWP is utterly unbearable. I would never choose to live like this.

The message on my To Do List that has been there since I submitted my claim on 3rd March, and is still there months and years later for some people, has just disappeared this afternoon - I assume this is a good sign?

This mesage that we all get in our To Do list: -

"We Will Call You. What happens next. We are processing your claim. We will call you in the next 2 to 3 days to check the information you have given us."

It has eventually vanished just today.

Well guess what...having waited such a long time I got through having being hold for over two hours..

For her to tell me to disregard the letter and she doesn't know what it means or why it was sent out 😤 she could offer me no explanation to what was happening with my claim. So basically a complete waste of time, tears and patience.

We need an emoji where you're banging your head against the wall.

Sorry you are having stress too, kittenface.

I have no further updates. V v stressful. I have checked with my HA this afternoon and UC have been in touch with them today asking them to verify my housing costs - so that's something.

Things are getting v complicated and stressful.

My statement is still missing the housing and lcwra elements even though CA have escalated a complaint to the dwp area manager.

I have just checked my bank account online and I have received two payments today. I have received my usual ESA payment of £318.10 AND i have also received the standard UC allowance that is showing on my statement £393.45.

I am beyond confused and struggling to cope with it all. Anyone have any idea what's going on?

Hoping to speak to CA again later.

The UC payment will be as a result of the statement that was issued a few days ago.

I understand that kimi. I don't understand why I have received another ESA payment.

It does happen ESA not being stopped correctly after migration.

Anecdotally I've gone from rarely seeing this, to seeing it more and more often as the amount of migration notices going out has increased (thus more UC applications).

The system obviously cannot cope. It's ridiculous that this transfer wasn't done automatically like the old IB/IS to ESA.

Spoke to my Housing Ass just now. They said I'm not the only one having migration problems.

I assume that UC and ESA will communicate at some point and the ESA will stop and I'll have to pay it back? Or do I have to phone ESA?

I even had that message I my journal saying:

"Some benefits can affect how much Universal Credit you receive. Our records show that you are not getting any of these benefits.

Benefits that can affect Universal Credit are:

    • Jobseeker's Allowance
    • Employment and Support Allowance
    • Carer's Allowance
    • Carer Support Payment
    • Maternity Allowance
    • Bereavement Allowance (including Widowed Parent's Allowance)
    • Widow's Pension (including Widowed Mother's Allowance)
    • State Pension
    • Incapacity Benefit
    • Severe Disablement Allowance
    • Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit

If you are actually getting one or more of these benefits, you must contact the office you claim them from. Tell them you're now getting Universal Credit and to update their records."

@moosee That's a standard automatic message. I got one myself last week, sent at 4.23 in the morning! You don't need to do anything about it.

UC will make a deduction on a future statement to reclaim the ESA if it has been overpaid. At least that's what happened with mine anyway.

Hi OA, so you were still being paid ESA for a while too?

  • OverlyAnxious
OverlyAnxious Online Community Member Posts: 4,204 Championing

Yes. I had major problems getting my ID verified so the ESA continued to be paid for longer than it should.

When I did eventually get UC started, there was a deduction made to my next UC statement (not the first statement) and they reclaimed the full ESA overpayment in one go.

If you can't afford to do that, you can ask them to split it into smaller repayments over a longer time.

That's good that it all happened automatically. It's fine for me to repay it all at once.

I think my home ID verification has caused everything to be delayed like you. I hope it's all sorted for next month. The stress and confusion is unbearable.

Moosee, my friend..we started this mess together and we'll figure our way through it. Have a hug.

Just hang tough ok, I'm sure it'll eventually straighten itself out.

I'm going to end up owing these incompetent idiots quite a bit of money. I got paid again yesterday £259.22 and the week before that (1st April) got another payment for £318.10 and for March got two more payments of £318.10....so yeah, it's a mess. My statement is supposed to be generated on 11th April so I'll wait and see what mess they'll make of mine.

This forced migration has been a mess. I can only imagine how many other people are in this mess.

Let's just hang in there and keep supporting and talking to each other.

So you are still being paid ESA after it should have ended too? I will end up owing them money too.

It's all so confusing. It is all a complete mess, the system is overwhelmed.

Yup, it looks like I'm still being paid ESA...and I'm assuming yesterday's payment was UC 😃

This is enough to make you bang your head against the wall.

It's unbearable stress on top of trying to live with a longterm condition.
