    Hi @NoOne

Just also wanted to say that I found filling the form in online much easier. You can take your time and it's saves each section you do automatically as you complete it.

Also, regarding the ID. Its not too technical. If you have a passport and driving licence (that's what I used) all I had to do was type the numbers into the box and expiry date and the database searched it and then confirmed it. No uploading, no scanning or nothing.

    Hope that helps. Good luck.

Just on my story. I got my statement and I don't understand any of it and mines not even complicated because the only benefit they moved across was ESA!

I think I've been underpaid, but hoping it balances out next month.

Can someone confirm (if they know) I submitted my paperwork on the 9th March 2025...how many ESA payments should I have had from them?

Do you suspect an underpayment of UC due to overpayment of ESA?

I have seen this happen so many times recently whereas it used to be quite rare.

Me in italics and brackets for skimming through stuff you already might know/seen . Probably could be neater/shorter →

(holy frick. thanks but uuurgh man!

The Form example is the actual form (so I can't run around without completing it) and I can't see the part of documents needed?

And for the required ID on the other link it only says this):-

You can verify your identity by one or more of the following:

    • online identity verification
    • face-to-face appointments (urgh)
    • documentary evidence (?)
    • biographical interviews (what is that?)

    Then goes onto this

    Evidence for online verification

You can verify your identity online by providing some information that only you would know, for example information about your passport.

You can use any 2 of the following items to verify your identity online:

    • valid UK passport (got one , no idea where it is)
    • recent Self Assessment returns (Nope)
    • credit references or records – for example, information about credit cards or phone contracts (no credit and no phone contract).

(*So at the very best if I can find it, I only have a passport, AKA 1 not 2 of the following)

If you successfully verify your identity online, you may not need the full ‘initial evidence interview’. (what the hell? full evidence interview?)

    Then this follows

Other ways to verify your identity

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) uses a combination of documentary evidence, interviewing and information on DWP records to verify someone’s identity. This may include attending:

    • face-to-face appointments (still urgh)
    • phone biographical interviews

If your appointment is face-to-face at a Jobcentre Plus, you’ll need to bring ID and proof of address.

(Me again and as I live in pure bedlam a lot of the ID /proof for even a face to face…might have some, but don't know where it is! I just paid off my poll tax last week and boom lost already. I will find it but honestly the place is full and upside down I don't know when I'll find it. It's been like this for over two years and I've been trying to get onto it for over a year.

Idea? Maybe I do the form online but not the identification bit , and then do the application on the phone, without having to do all this identification finding? Can that be done - without getting 95% thru and finding it can't be. Like they make it so hard "Oh yeah Digital ID is a good idea!".)

@NoOne do you have a driving licence? If so it really is worth the time and hassle to find the passport. Both of mine were valid (in date) and it literally took seconds to verify. No interviews, no job center, no nothing.

All that said mine was a very straightforward transfer from ESA migration to UC....and they've still stuffed it up in payments.

    Best of luck!

Oh I have a driving licence - I'm not supposed to drive and I might not even be supposed to have a driving licence . Don't worry I don't drive I know I'm unfit for it. It wasn't mentioned in the docs apart from face to face. This is going to be difficult.

Ah you're faster than me! 😉 My passport is new too. Oh well . I will continue to look for it (I have been for a few months).

It won't be. You can do this. Spend the next few days looking for your passport, as long its in date (still valid) and your driving licence is also in date you only need those two items to verify your ID. I did mine 9th March. It was all I needed.

The most important thing is BOTH need to be in date/valid.

I also have a driving licence I don't use (can't drive anymore) but kept it up to date because I prefer that as my ID instead of carrying around my passport in my bag.

Same for me @Kittenface - I haven't been able to drive for several years because of my health but I have kept my driving licence up to date and I was able to use it to prove my ID.

@NoOne - I really suggest you contact Citizens Advice Help To Claim and they can advise and explain the difference between applying online or by telephone. They can also tell you what documents you will need to verify your ID and how this is done. And they can help with any other questions you may have.

There is a long list of accepted forms of ID for face to face checks: https://www.gov.uk/jobcentre-plus-interview

I eventually had a Visiting Officer come to my home to verify my ID as I am not well enough to travel 25+ miles to the nearest JC. He used my birth certificate, up to date driving licence, out of date passport, and bank card. My passport is 10 years out of date but he still used it. However, you definitely need an up to date passport for the online verification.

    Hi,

Unless it's changed recently, you need both a valid passport and driving licence to confirm ID online.

There is also the option of a credit check, if you've had any credit over the past few years. (Mobile phone contract, car lease etc).

A debit card won't be accepted for online verification unfortunately.

ahh ok thanks,do you think a old bus pass with picture on is sufficient enough? Tia

I don't think so, sorry. There are very specific rules for the online verification as it needs to be things that the government have direct access to, such as passports and credit ratings.

A bus pass might be accepted at a Job Centre or home visit, but not online as far as I'm aware.
