Live in carers

Hi all,

I live with my dad who has clinical depression and sadly I have developed very severe health anxiety due to his illness and living in an environment that is mentally unhealthy. Also getting pericarditis was a huge trigger. He is a great dad but I just can’t cope here anymore. I have unfortunately been in and out of a&e and am in a really dark place and don’t know where to go from here. I’m scared to sleep, scared to go outside, I don’t eat much as I’m so sick with worry. I don’t know where to go because I don’t have family or friends and my health anxiety is so severe right now I know I would not be able to live on my own. I’ve told my GP this and they just give me anxiety tablets which doesn’t help the situation as a whole.

Is there such thing as getting a place and getting a live in carer? Or any advice would be welcome about this. I’ve tried all the breathing exercises, good diets and hydration etc

thank you

You could look into supported housing where staff would be available all or part of the day.

I would suggest referring yourself for a care needs assessment as a starting point, so you can discuss your needs and be told what help and support is available to you.

So Sorry to hear about this.

Anxiety UK is a brilliant charity which could support you while you try to improve your situation. It sounds like your Dad also needs a care assessment. I do hope you both find the help you need.

    Best wishes, A

A social worker may be a good person to ask this of.

Linked below is advice on how to access them.

The Citizens Advice Bureau may also be very helpful and both of these could likely inform you of other sources of advice in your area. There's help available, good luck.
