Extra Help at School in Wales. Individual Development Plans
A new education law came into force in Wales on 1 September 2021.
The Additional Learning Needs and Education Tribunal (Wales) Act 2018 changes how children and young people aged 0-25 years with additional learning needs (ALN) will have their needs assessed, planned and monitored. These changes have been gradually introduced to the education setting.
This attached document explains what are Individual development plans and the process of obtaining one for your child.
There are organisations in Wales, that can support you during the application process. These services are free of charge and having an advocate can build confidence and empower you to get the best educational support for your child.
SNAP Cymru offers free and independent information, advice and support to help get the right education for children and young people with all kinds of special educational needs (SEN)/additional learning needs(ALN)and disabilities. We give advice and support on a range of issues including assessments, individual education plans, statements of special educational needs, bullying, school attendance, exclusion, health and social care provision and discrimination.
