Hi @Empathy56, that's amazing, how long did it take you?0

Hi Adrian_Scope,it took me about 2 to 3 weeks to complete.I have done quite a few.I used to do cross stitch photos of my pets but had to give that up as I couldn't grip the needles. This is easier for me.1

Hi!
i joined the community yesterday, and someone suggested this thread may be of interest...and it is!
i have never been “crafty” in any way, DIY, was an absolute loathing, this changed when we bought our house in Italy...Italian builders charge horrendously!
but still I had no interest in making things.
when I became less able...I won’t bore you with it, we are all there!...I suddenly lost the things, hobbies and people I used to do them with because of the cost. I went from earning “quite well” to benefits...bit of a shock! So the high cost activities went, for both physical and financial reasons.
I started learning to play the guitar a couple of years ago, and decided I wanted a cigar box guitar...no money to buy one, but the plans were online to build one, I had a hacksaw and tape measure...away I went!
i loved it! I am in the process of building my second, and have requests for three more!
Then my son bought a house, and in one of his mood boards, was a clock...I thought...I could make that, and did! Again, everyone else wants one now! The second is for my mum.6 -
That is lovely @adamskis!0

There are a lot of creative people on this thread, thought i'd share a couple of my own past projects, i had my own business and made props and masks for various promotional events, for film and tv, i also dabbled in makeup effects, i was always fascinated by film monsters growing up and wondered how they were done, i am self taught, and did enjoy making stuff, i had to finish a few years ago due to illness, and now only create these pieces occasionally it takes a lot out of me,, heres a lifesize latex and polyfoam bust of ET i created a few years ago, i loved the movie and ET, as a kid i wished that someone would come and save me from my abusive parents, the movie is still a firm favourite of ours
I feel like i drew and redrew him growing up on paper, and when i was sculpting this bust the likeness just appeared out of the clay,
this next bust is of the character Karl fredrickson from the disney pixar movie UP, my wife and i loved the movie and i wanted to make a bust of the character, but not as cartoony as he appeared in the movie, i toned him down and this is my humanised version of him, made from silicone with acrylic eyes, each hair punched in one at a time, took over 15 hours to just do the hairwork
I have made many things over the years, some a bit more scary than others but if you would like to see them i will share, thanks for looking5 -

Hi Roddy
I have stopped my business now due to ill health, i can still make stuff but it takes a long time, and right now i'm not doing so well mentally so can't take on any projects, these are stupidly expensive to, the ET cost me 125 to make in materials alone, never mind the 50 hours or so it took to do2 -

Heres a couple more pieces, i made this goblin bank teller for the actor Warwick davis, its from harry potter and one of his many roles he has done in makeup, Warwick loved it and was very nice and down to earth
heres a demon makeup i did for a friend he was working in a nightclub as a magician, its a bit loud the makeup but i overdid the colours so he could be seen in the darkened environment

@adamskis I've always seemed to be able to sell my work even though the items I produce are relatively high cost (from say £300 to £1500+) however I also believe that selling an item is not the influence or the reason that we produce our works unless we take on commissions etc.
I always produce for myself first, as that is the buzz first & foremost. 'Art' can suffer if it becomes nothing else but a business, or we rely upon selling them for an income, though of course we all need to be able to purchase our materials whatever they may be before we can be creative and enjoy what we do.
Many of us may begin perhaps, simply by creating things as a hobby or as a means of therapy, and we can soon run out people to give the items away to, as Birthday or Christmas gifts for example. Some of us will then have no option but to try our luck at craft fairs (if we are able) or perhaps trying to sell things online, but this can quickly turn what was once an enjoyable hobby, into a nightmare, and a lot of extra & unavoidable work and worry which can take away the initial enjoyment and our reasons for wanting to be creative in the first place.

Thanks adamski and Roddy, yes the things i make our prohibitively expensive, i use the same materials and processes that the film techs use, when i had my own business it was very interesting never knew what the next call would bring, nowadays i'm on benefits so can only afford to do the odd project here and there0

Heres a few more of my past works, this next one i did as a commission, its a bust of the mr barlow vampire from the tv movie Salems lot, does anyone remember this movie? its still creepy today, gave me nightmares as a child but i'm over it now, heres the finished clay sculpture before moulding
and the finished rubber bust, i gave him light up eyes
Heres a predator mask i repaired and repainted for a friend, he bought what he was told was a professional finished mask and this thing showed up
After a good few hours work here's what it looked like after i had fixed it up for him
