As a team, we're currently having conversations around our thoughts on misinformation, and asking people to provide links to back up what they've said.
On the one hand, we don't want to facilitate the spread of incorrect information. On the other hand, we don't want to stunt conversation, especially conversations during which someone's comment can be corrected, or their views questioned.sometimes the manner and tone used when requesting the source comes across as demanding , blunt and challengingI agree with you here @janer1967. I know that I've been a bit guilty in the past of perhaps being too blunt when asking for evidence. I think it's positive that we question where our own views have come from, as well as others, but this should be done in a polite and constructive way.
As you've said, @woodbine, this conversation has gone a little off topic! I saw that US President Joe Biden said yesterday:"I want to be clear: We will defend every inch of Nato territory with the full might of a united and galvanized Nato," the president wrote on Twitter. "But we will not fight a war against Russia in Ukraine. A direct confrontation between Nato and Russia is World War III."(BBC News)
What do you all think about Biden's recent statement?0 -
woodbine said:MarkM88 said:Yeah great, just go public with information that was not known to everyone, thanks! Reported! All I am saying is, you can’t go round telling people they are not following rules when you break them.
Perhaps it might have been better had you had a conversation with me before reporting something I couldn't remember if it was private or not.Just to point out, I don’t need to have a conversation with you, what I said in PM was private and that’s how it should remain, I’m entitled to have private conversations kept as such.Plus, I’m not sure how you expect me to have a conversation with you when your profile is set as private so can’t message.I don’t particularly want to speak with you anyway, you have upset me, tried to provoke me and generally been very unpleasant.0 -
I don't think that @woodbine was deliberately trying to expose something you'd said privately @MarkM88. I've since removed that part of the comment.
I've reopened the thread in the hopes that we can all have a discussion around the original topic of what the rest of the world should do about Russia's invasion of Ukraine. If the conversation continues to go off topic, we might have to permanently close the thread.
I'd also like to remind everyone that it's okay to take a step away from a thread if you needThis is obviously an upsetting topic, and is bound to bring up a range of emotions.

woodbine said:I said I had nothing left to say on this thread but having been attacked I feel the need to defend myself.woodbine said:I didn't remember that it was private as in I can't remember what I had for dinner yesterday, having had several strokes my memory has been affected.
you are entitled to have private conversations kept private, but see above.woodbine said:A number of people have managed to PM me in the last 24 hours.woodbine said:I beg to differ I have not been unpleasant, I have been a model of pleasantness, if you feel differently then that is you interpretation not my intention.woodbine said; Now that really is my final comment on this thread.Tori_Scope said:The comment might be removed but people would have seen it.0 -

Just to say that you can private message someone if persons profile is private, I private messaged woodbine a few days ago. Just go on your profile and messages and put the person name in. That's what I did.0

I think president Biden is right to be afraid to intervene directly in the Ukraine, it would definitely escalate into a world war as in my opinion there are many enemies of the west who would side with Russia.
In the meantime all we we can do is feed through weapons to help them to defend themselves. It’s hard to watch helplessly what is happening in the Ukraine, most of us are limited to sending goods/contributing to charities. A truly horrible situation.0 -
Which photo are you referring to @lisathomas50?If those pictures are meant to prove something, they haven’t, one of them is speculation and another didn’t even get asked about.0

Putin - Cancer?
That was suggested a week ago and unfortunately there is NO proof or way of confirming this
And as for nuclear bunkers... Corsham is definitely not a bunker - it is used for cheese and wine storage
Even 40 years ago it was too damp to live in...
I used to work there!!

I think the speculation around Putin having cancer has already been addressed.
As for the nuclear bunkers, I think this is the link Lisa got the screenshot from. Is that right @lisathomas50? The article, from 2018, goes to through a list of a few of the old nuclear bunkers in the UK. It seems to suggest that many of them would no longer be used for this purpose.0 -
Another aspect is how the invasion is affected world wide through all sanctions being imposed
I'm not saying they are wrong and my heart and thoughts go to those in Ukraine
The Chelsea FC sanctions for example which yes are not high up in priority but there are lots of children that support this club so it is bringing the conflict to their attention . My son is a supporter and all he ever wears is his Chelsea shirts but it may seem extreme but I've told him it may not be wise to go out in public wearing them
What are other propled thoughts on some of sanctions
By coincidence just watching BBC news and they are discussing impact of sanctions0 -
@lisathomas50
Please stop scaremongering
This is such an unbelievably incorrect articleMOD did NOT take over Spring Quarry in 1991
It has been MOD property since 19390 -

Already addressed.
Yes but the exact same screenshots were posted again today.

Exactly, considering Lisa had been warned politely by Alex and goes and posts them again. Plus, the original question and statement has been ignored. Hmm.0

@Teddybear12 yes she did, see page 5.
Im also not sure why someone is liking @Teddybear12 above post as it’s incorrect.0 -
No need to be, just pointing out, she did and was politely warned the first time by Alex.0

Hi all,
There seems to be a technical glitch, meaning some comments are repeating themselves. This has happened on a couple of threads. Apologies for this. I hadn't seen the screenshots posted previously on this thread. I've deleted a few of the duplicates now.
Sanctions are definitely another interesting topic @janer1967. I'd also be interested in hearing everyone's views

Sanctions are definitely another interesting topic @janer1967. I'd also be interested in hearing everyone's viewsTeddybear was wrong to say the screenshots weren’t reposted and she was corrected by Mark and myself. This now makes us look like we were in the wrong, when Infact we weren’t.Please don’t think I’m “having a go” at Teddybear here because I’m not but this does need to be corrected and other comments need removing.0
