UC Migration Payment Issue

Hello my name is Leeanna and I am in the middle of transferring over. I received around £960 ESA every four weeks and now I get £252.20 ESA and Universal Credit is £162.22 every fortnight. It is £828.85 month but based on their calculations I should be getting £1042.38 as I have transitional protection this is my calculations
£240.55 ESA week
240.55*52=12508.60
Divide 12508.60/12=1,042.38
So I should be no worse off than £1042.38
Please can someone advise me as I have severe mental health problems and am struggling, thank you.

Have you had your first payment statement and Transitional Protection is missing?
This can be common as UC rely on multiple pieces of information from numerous sources in order to calculate TP. So sometimes it is not done in time for your first statement.
If this is the case add a note on your Journal stating Transitional Protection is missing and your UC award is lower than legacy benefits.
You might want support from a local trained benefits advisor.

The transitional protection was on there statement. I am at a loss Kim, thank you so much for replying and any help you can provide

Are you willing to list all the elements on your statement, along with the amounts?
After the total award before deductions, are any deductions then listed?
If you post a photo/screenshot please ensure all personal details are redacted.

I personally think your TP has been calculated incorrectly and is too low.
You can ask them via Journal to look at it again, and provide you with a breakdown of the calculation so you can understand how they've arrived at that figure, coming back here for further advice if needed or seeing a local trained benefits advisor.

I’ve sent them a message and will let you know what they reply. Thank you so much for your help, patience and support as I don’t know where else to go as I struggle with my mental health problems and find this extremely difficult. I have no idea what benefits advisors are and find it extremely hard to deal with benefits people with my mental health. I can’t thank you enough

Benefits advisors are people who are trained in the system rules, who then provide support and advice to those seeking help.
They do not work for the DWP or Government, but for organisations such as Citizens Advice and other charities.
Some people do it as a paid job, others are volunteers.

This is the reply, I am waiting to get the breakdown. I think my transitional protection is calculated incorrectly but they have me second guessing myself

What they have said about your ESA is correct.
Hopefully the specialist team can shed some light on your TP calculation.

Kim May I ask have you heard of the transitional protection being calculated incorrectly before, I am worried and curious

I am currently facing this issue and haven’t been awarded the transitional protection amount in my first payment calculations. I’m now £180 worse off.

I am the same page and am waiting to hear back from DWP. I worked out my figures on exactly what they quoted and I am almost £80 worse off and if they say it’s due to the fact that I should of been getting Bedroom Tax Exemption but wasn’t because of them giving me incorrect information I will not be happy and take it further. I am already trying to appeal the Bedroom Tax as they refunded me around £420 but I should of been getting it from day one and that’s over £7000 I have been paying but shouldn’t have. They just put it in my back also so I don’t know the appeal process or the address to write to. If anyone can help I would be extremely grateful as I struggle terribly with mental health issues and physical problems. I apologise for the lengthy reply, I feel like I have just written a novel.

To challenge a benefits decision you must first ask them to look at the decision again (Mandatory Reconsideration).
If the MR isn't successful you then appeal.
You can seek help from local welfare rights
They are independent advisors who don't work for the DWP.

This is the reply I received. I am confused and would appreciate any help in understanding them please, thank you.

Regardless of what they work the transitional protection on I am worse off and substantially worse off at that. It is around £210 a month, this is not acceptable nor ethical. They said in black and white that you would be no worse off and they legally have to uphold that. I am so aghast and worried as this loss is pushing me further into the red, I am sinking and don’t know how to fill the holes in the ship quickly enough. Please can someone help a lady who is mentally and physically disabled try and make sense of this.

Hey love,
Ok I saw your initial message and you quoted that you should be getting £1042 as your per your calculation??? Correct???
Looking at your recent award I took your total calculation which says £1200.56
I then deducted your housing benefit award which is £336..48
So £1200.56-£336.48= £864.56
Now add you TP of £178.81 on top of the £864.56 which should give you a total monthly award of £1042.56 which is what you said in your first message
Hope that helps you lovey x

Thank you so much for replying I’d like to start with, appreciated very much. May I ask what you think I should do with what they replied. They are by how I am reading it saying I am getting the correct amount and everything was calculated correctly but I am worse off after how they calculate it. I am receiving £828.85 and I should be getting £1042.88. I am around £210 worse off and am at a loss trying to make them understand that.

@leeannathomas please forgive me as I now feel that I may not have given the correct advice/calculation on here regarding your question and the site is not allowing me to delete my message. Im hoping someone with alot more expertise comes on this post to help give you a better answer in understanding what may be going on with your situation…Once again please forgive me if I have caused you more confusion or added to your stress as that really wasnt my intention at all, it really it wasnt….

Please don’t apologise, you took your time and have tried to help in understanding an issue that is extremely complicated. You have nothing to apologise for. I can’t make head nor tail of this issue and am just hoping for some advice, clarity. What others think and if I have calculated incorrectly or they have. I don’t know I am so exhausted, confused and am second guessing myself, am I in one of my manic episodes and am adamant something is wrong when it is correct. Any advice I’m more than grateful for. Maybe I should have phrased it differently and wrote any opinions on the situation would be greatly appreciated.
