I just wanted to add that when a couple are in a relationship but living in two separate homes owned by one partner, UC may still look at the circumstances to decide whether they are one household or genuinely living separately. It is not automatic either way. It is not an unusual arrangement in real life, but it can look a little more complex on paper, so UC sometimes asks a few extra questions to understand the set‑up properly.

I am not suggesting that aseed is living in the other property, only that UC sometimes looks more closely at situations that do not fit their usual categories. I remember once reading about a case where a couple claimed separately and the DWP asked quite detailed personal questions to establish whether they were genuinely living apart or effectively one household across two properties. It showed that when an arrangement does not fit the usual pattern, the DWP may look a little more closely so they can apply the rules correctly.

If a person owns a second property, UC will usually treat that as capital unless a specific disregard applies, even if a partner lives there. The home the claimant actually lives in is ignored, but equity in any other property can affect entitlement.
