I have a daughter who is autistic and has sensory, auditory processing disorder, anxiety and is in year 10 and is struggling with her learning , so far behind that it takes a lot for her to get into school , She has mental health issues and self harms and is on the watchlist committing suicide due to the fact that these exams that she’s doing even though they are only the mocks she under so much pressure she can’t cope with it. I would like to know about the functional skills which is an equivalent of a GCSE. I have not heard of this offered in her high school and I had a meeting about her EHCP review, in January of this Year. can I get some information and any helpful information would be appreciated. Do I need to get hold of the EHCP which comes from Barrow?

Hi @Tc57 and a warm welcome to the community from me!

Thank you for telling us a little bit about your situation. I'm sorry to hear about the stress and pressure your daughter is under with the exams, does she get any support at the moment?

Here is some information on functional skills that I hope you find helpful. Functional Skills UK also has information on courses other than english and maths that may be of interest.

Unfortunately, not all secondary schools offer functional skills as this tends to be mostly be done in colleges, university or online.

How did the EHCP review go in January? It is good that your daughter has an EHCP in place and it is worth contacting the school and mentioning functional skills because even if they don't offer it at her school, there may still be another pathway to it.

We're also going to send you an email in a while, please keep an eye out for it 😊
