I’m becoming worried about the heatwave next week. I haven’t tried the cooling mist yet though, thanks for the suggestion :)

Just a warning about using Fans: Fans can be dangerous in extreme heat, as they trick your body into thinking your getting cooler when in fact they are just blowing the same hot air at you. But because your body thinks its cooler it sweats less and hence you can overheat easily using a conventional fan.

We haven't had this heat wave that was predicted.
Its been nice and sunny but not overly hot.
I've been enjoying it as much as possible as we get a lot of rain and cold winds during autumn and winter.

It's getting warmer here toward the end of the week with it reaching 32 degrees on Friday and 30 degrees on the weekend. It's definitely been less humid recently which has been making a big difference I think☀️

Thanks for the links, but unfortunately, the value of the information they contain is comparable to the noise generated by environmental movements.
Heat must be removed from an overheated body; this is an engineering challenge. There's no better solution than air conditioners. Fans are worse, but better than nothing.
Consider the air conditioning systems on submarines and large ships; their design utilizes the most reliable knowledge and the best available technologies.0 -
I'm talking about conventual fans, not air conditioning. Fans do nothing than blow concentrated hot air at you tricking your body into thinking your getting cool. When infact you sweat less and end up overheating more. In weather around 30c fans should be used with caution.
Air conditioning is different, as they add moisture to the air and literally recondition the hot air around you.

For the sake of accuracy, air con doesn't add moisture to the air. It does the complete opposite.
An AC machine is literally exactly the same as a dehumidifier inside (and a fridge). That's what it means by conditioning, removing the humidity, not adding to it.
Basically it uses a change of state from liquid to gas to create a cold area inside a metal grille (called an evaporator). Moisture condenses on the outside of the cold metal, and then drips down to collect in a tank at the back, or for a car just drips out onto the road.
AC is far better for colling a room than a fan could ever be. But for anyone that suffers with low humidity, they absolutely need to be aware that an AC unit will reduce humidity even further.

I'll throw another thing into the mix… dehumidifiers - they remove moisture from the air - yet make it feel colder - how ?
Does a dehumidifier cool a room? The short answer is technically no, it doesn’t, but the full answer is a little more complicated because a dehumidifier does make a room feel cooler even without a lower temperature.
Like most other electrical appliances, a dehumidifier actually increases the ambient temperature by a few degrees. However, a dehumidifier still makes the room feel cooler. This cooling feeling has nothing to do with the changes in temperature. It only feels cooler because of the changes in relative humidity.

That's exactly what Rubin was warning against with fans. We don't need to 'feel' cooler. Our bodies need to actually be cooler in order to function more effectively.
As noted in your post, a dehumidifier produces heat (the same as a fridge or an AC unit) as well as stripping the moisture from it, so they're a complete disaster in a small room during a heatwave.

There's no magic involved. If the air temperature is lower than body temperature, the fan will cool the body.

Just have some very large trees to shade one side of your house and use nature's evapotranspiration free and it works

The house behind me had some very large, mature trees, but the men that moved in a couple of years ago, they were constantly complaining about the noise of the pigeons and magpies, so down they came!
Not their problem of course, but now I get no shade, and Gus has to keep coming in to get away from the sun. Some people want slabs and decking over nature, I don't understand it.

Ah there's no comprehending some people's logic but then we spray crops with pesticides to stop the insects eating them and then eat it ourselves

I have never liked heat, but the heatwave in June was something else.
My part of the country I had 5 nights in a row over 20C despite the news saying was less.

17C here in Angus still, just checked and Lerwick, Shetland Islands, they have 14C. What a contrast with some of you in the south.
