I am a disabled mother (recovering Cancer patient, Polymyalgia, mobility issues and possibly with an autistic child E (they/their) with an number of disabilities, recently turned 18. We live in North Wales. Our family have been fighting for years to try to get help from Schools, CAMHS, Education, SS and more since at least 2014- badly let down by all agencies except School nurse and GPs. Recent change in LEA Chief officer has resulted in finally being heard. Finally, late 2017, E was assessed as ASD, and got their first SEN statement early 2018 - just before E turned 18. I am awaiting an ASD assessment too. I am trying to help others in our area having similar struggles with the various agencies, and when well enough E has also helped advocate for other kids and for change.

Hello Joanne @JCrawford and a warm - if slightly belated - welcome to the community. We must have been short of bodies on-line earlier.
I used to work as a learning support assistant with youngsters on the spectrum and I know only too well the kind of difficulties you must have encountered. I am very glad that at least the school nurse and your GPs have been supportive. And don't get me started on CAMHS... Sheesh.
You might like to have a look through our categories, here https://community.scope.org.uk/categories to see if there is anything of particular interest to you and, in the meanwhile (and once Easter is over!!!) I am sure people will be in touch with you who can relate to what you have been through.
You and 'E' are clearly heroes, Joanne, and it's an honour to meet you, but please, please, please let us know if there is anything we might be able to do to support the two of you.
Warmest best wishes to you both,
Richard
