@Tammyjane33 - the wrong day to ask about as I've been full of sneezes. Don't worry Leelee51 - I'll not give you cold; it's an allergy problem! I look forward to chatting with you both.

Hi all, thankyou for the messages. Here goes, my story, i have been diagnosed with osteoarthiritus of the knees, restless leg syndrome and chronic back pain, i have been house bound, apart from 1 or sometimes 2 days a week for the last 18 months, i also have severe anxiety and depression, which being stuck in the house doesnt help with. I want to get out more, but when my partner is working i cant, as im not able to walk far. I have recently lost my job, which i knew was coming, they did keep it open for me up until now, but there is nothing i could do if i went back, even though i woudnt even be able to get there anyway. What i need is some socialisation of some sort, but my anxiety holds me back on going to groups etc, is there some sort of group that does like a friendship thing, where maybe someone visits you once a week or something? Im based in sheffield and im 51 years old, and really didnt expect my life to be like this if you asked me 2 years ago. Sorry for the long waffle on, and thankyou for reading.

Hi @Leelee51. Thanks for sharing this. I'm glad you're taking steps to combat the isolation. Have you tried a befriending service?

I wouldn’t know where to start to be honest, do most cities have them?

Hi @Leelee51. Here's a list of some companionship/befriending services near Sheffield. Obviously many of them are geared more towards people older than yourself, but there might be something useful for you there.

Hi Lisa, thank you very much for sharing about the problems you now find. I've got the OA knees & chronic back pain, so can relate to that!
As far as your anxiety & depression go, I'll ask my friend @thespiceman as he knows a lot about it & has some resources that may very well be worth seriously looking into.

Hi, thankyou so much, it is very much appreciated. Can I ask you, what if anything do you take for the pain? I can’t take anything as strong painkillers cause me to have more anxiety.

Hi Lisa, altho' I mentioned OA, the worst pain I have is neurological, & I take a low dose anti-epileptic, which just dampens the pain down a bit.
I have a genetic disorder which has caused generalised OA since I was 40. Most pain medication for my joints either didn't work, or made me ill.....the case for many people with their meds unfortunately. I'm sorry you're in the same boat.
The one thing, strange to say, that helps my back pain (the least of my worries!) is cannabidiol (not like cannabis, as it only has trace elements of THC, which is the psychoactive part. I buy mine online & it's very reasonably priced. If you'd like to know more, just say, & I'll get back to you.
Hopefully my friend will be able to help you too.
