Noted. What I have tried to put out there is that these changes that are hoped for by the DWP already exist for many other government departments. It's not a new idea at all, it just is to give the DWP the same powers.

Yeah , seems really contradictory to me.
I hope this person isn’t scaremongering for the sake of it , a forum where a lot of us suffer anxiety would be massively inconsiderate.
No it has never been my intention to scaremonger.
As for my comments being contradictory all I can say that for all of my life I have tried to help others besides myself. There is no way that I could stop the PIP money for care. There is no system in place where people like myself that have no extra care costs could stop that element.

I am happy in knowing that instead I am helping others with the money I don't need.

It doesn't help the rest of us when you tell the world you receive disability benefits you don't need  :/

Judging others from a place of safety or position of authority is all too easy

    As for @2oldcodgers
Im actually sitting here shocked and absolutely disgusted that you have went on and on and on about people MISSPENDING their money, meanwhile you are giving your benefit away every 4 weeks.
I can’t believe you are admitting this on a public forum. I’m not sure if it’s arrogance or you see nothing wrong with this. 🤦‍♀️

That’s exactly what this very thread is about. Yes…. Speculation, as we continue to advise you.

If there's a loophole in the system then it won't help anyone waiting the extra seven years (maybe more) for the privilege of retirement with top-ups but no private pension

That is not specifically "disability" benefits more "out of work" benefits.
More of a concern is BBC News - Welfare cuts worth billions planned by ministers

The question wasn't asking about disability benefits. This thread is related to exactly what that link mentions. It's just that someone mentioned disability benefits in this thread and the conversation continued around that for part of the thread.

I used to get the old incapacity benefit but can remember if i got income support along with it. Does anyone remember how much the income support part was if you got incapacity. No one knew the answer? I did answer your question on your thread. See thread https://forum.scope.org.uk/discussion/90444/esa-confusion#latest

Income Support would not have been included in your IB payments. Income Support was a separate benefit which you would have needed to claim as a top up. How much you would have been entitled to would depend on your circumstances.

IB was a contributions based benefit only.

Can I ask the reason why you’re asking these questions after 10 years of claiming ESA?

@Tonawanda17 did you do as i advised and request the information DWP hold on you? You can do that here. https://secure.dwp.gov.uk/personal-information-request/name doing this will mean you'll get the answers you're asking. You can request the last 2 years of your IB claim but you'll need the dates for this.

If you have nothing to hide there is nothing to worry about.
I would suggest there could be something to worry about if it is true that the dwp will be given powers of arrest.
Who in their right mind would think the dwp can be trusted with the power to arrest anyone?

Hi. Found this on another thread.
    Thoughts please.

The document stated that much of the legislation used by the DWP’s counter-fraud officers is “now decades old”. It said the government would introduce measures to improve access to data and enforcement:

“Subject to parliamentary time, we will legislate to update their powers to boost access to data from third parties and carry out arrests and searches and seize evidence. This will enable them to act more quickly to identify, detect and disrupt fraud, particularly from organised criminal gangs and wider economic crime. We will also bring in a new civil financial penalty, so more fraudsters pay for their crimes.”

@Tonawanda17 again, that’s the same as what we’ve been talking about here and we are over 10 pages into the thread.

DWP can already access back accounts if they suspect fraud so nothing new there.
