Universal Credit Migration Notice
Hi all,
I’ve just made my application to move onto UC from ESA Support group, I was asked to go in to the job centre for a identity verification standard check but I am unable to go in due to health reasons and have never had to go in whilst on ESA, is this normal? I did have someone phone in and request a home visit instead which has been requested so just waiting on hearing back for this. It’s so frustrating because I thought the move over would be simple and they wouldn’t do this but we was told as it is a new claim.

All new claimants for UC (including those migrating) need to go through ID verification.
There might be a long wait for a home visit, you can request a telephone call for a biographical id check. This involves asking questions only you'd know the answers to.

Thankyou very much

Hi I’m so stressed as I made my online UC application a week ago so claim is in process but I constantly keep getting messages after messages on the journal which is frustrating and affecting my mental health, besides the heap of messages the agents are seeming to be getting information incorrect as I am been asked to send a fit note in when I was on ESA Support group for about over 7 years now also they say they haven’t got details of me doing a Work capability assessment which is incorrect as I do this at the start of my ESA claim. I am extremely upset as I thought this transition should have been smooth besides this the housing calculation seem under paid as it doesn’t seem they have paid the full amount inc Service charges what can I do. Can I change over to telephone account and cancel online account also?

The system is asking for a Fit Note because it has picked up on your health condition, but doesn't yet have confirmation of your ESA status. This often takes a few weeks you can safely ignore the request.
The claims can be chaotic at first, but I promise you things settle down and the claim will basically run itself with very little input from you.
Service charges and UC can be a complex area.
Are you renting social housing or private?

Not all service charges can be claimed, it will depend on what they are for?

sorry yes I’m renting from the council and do not pay service charges as they are included in my rent normally all I pay for is water

Right now the system has you down as ready and able to work. UC need to recieve information from ESA about your status. This takes several weeks.
The same thing happened to me I had to attend an appointment. I explained I was migrating from UC, the work coach didn't understand at first but listened to me, consulted a more experienced colleague who endorsed what I said.
She then turned off as many work commitments turned off as could be turned off, but it was mandatory from the system to book me another appointment. This appointment was subsequently cancelled after my ESA status came through.

As you rent social housing, UC get confirmation about rent and a breakdown of service charges direct from your landlord.
It might be that there are service charges included with your rent that are not eligible to be paid under UC Housing Element.

I identify with all the comments made. Im at the end of going through the migration process. There has been many struggles and I have found the process very difficult. I know the journal questions are difficult but persevere and ask them about anything that you are struggling with. I sometimes repeated questions on what I didn't understand and I was honest in my journal and told them how hard I was finding what for many people is a very difficult process. I think they probably got fed up with my questions but i feel it's important that all involved need to know. I was able to prove my identity over the phone which was a belief as I struggle leaving my home. . I found that they were very helpful in this part of the process,I hope you find the same applies for you.

Going to your local job centre does not mean they will assume you're capable for work. UC should have updated the system to detect when someone migrates from ESA but it can still take a little while to update your claim. Some claims seem to update quicker than others.
The agents that put those messages onto your journal very often haven't a single clue what they are talking about.
Just hang on in there and fingers crossed your claim will update very soon with the information you're in the Support Group.

Hi Thankyou for your response! I am really struggling too especially today as it seems that no one knows what they’re doing. I have sent back questions to them through my journal so hope it gets sorted out. It’s just unfair how the government are doing this to vulnerable individuals as very stressful yet they make the move over sound so easy.

It's only difficult and stressful due to fear of the unknown. Once everything is in place and you receive your first payment everything will be fine. I manage my daughter's UC claim with journal access and the last time I had a message on her journal was last April when I had to report annual changes to her housing costs. I've received nothing since then.

With ID for UC will voters ID count, apart from.disabled bus pass I haven't got anything. I have citizen card but it's 10 years old

Hi @Andi66, I've added a link below that I hope is helpful. It looks as though you've a few options for verification but it does depend on how your applying i.e. face to face, online, etc.
How to verify your identity for Universal Credit - GOV.UK
I hope this is helpful ☺️

Why not voters ID card as they are government card. Apart from pass card which is old, I don't have a passport or driving license

They will do a biographical appointment if you have no ID. For this they will ask you questions only you will know the answer to. Such as date of birth, who you bank with etc etc.

Thank you Poppy, that's a relief.
