Time length for ESA Support to be applied to UC?
hi all, I’m sorry for all my questions lately!
I’m moving from ESA support group to UC, and I should be put in the LCWRA group without a WCA, but that hasn’t happened yet.
I know it’s not automatic and so a delay is expected, but I was wondering how long I should leave it before messaging on the journal about it, please (I signed up for UC on the 10th of this month)?

You know that I’m going to be doing a claim @Kimmy87 in just over 2 weeks’ time (Wednesday 5th Feb), you know I’m going to be doing a “voluntary migration”.
I think I’ll be choosing to do a three-way call 📞 with someone from the CA Help to Claim Service and a UC advisor a few weeks after I’ve started my claim, just to do a check that I’ve definitely been placed into the relevant group.

It’s better to be safe than sorry @Kimmy87. I know too that it can take a few weeks but I’ll just want to know that my claim has been updated to show I’m in the Support Group equivalent (LCWRA group).

At the end of the day @Kimmy87 my claim will need to be showing that I’m in the LCWRA group so my payments can be calculated correctly. Because I’ll be doing my claim on 5th Feb, my assessment periods will be: 5-4th. LCRWA will need to be added to my claim by 4th March, the date of my first statement.

Don’t forget @Kimmy87, the reason why I’ll be asking over the phone 📞 if LCWRA has been added to my UC is because my claim will be submitted by phone. I won’t have access to any online account for my claim. I won’t be able to check online to see if LCRWA has been applied.

I have lots of confidence that my UC entitlement will be split into two payments/twice monthly payments. I don’t think there’ll be any problems with the APA request. I will get my payments more frequently. @Kimmy87

But my claim will still need to be updated on the system, showing that I’m in the LCRWA group. My claim needs to be made up of the following:
The Standard Allowance for being over 25 years of age and being a single person.
The LCRWA element.
Once my claim includes the LCRWA element, my payments will be correct. ☑️ ✅👍✔️ @Kimmy87

Three weeks after the date of my claim being submitted 5th Feb would be the W/C 24th February. That would be the week that I request an update on my claim, to see if it’s showing that I’m in the group that I should be in (LCWRA group).
I’ll repeat again 😂👍😂, this will be done by phone, a three-way call (a Help to Claim Service advisor and a UC advisor). I’m not doing my claim online, so there’d be no way to see online if my claim has been updated.

I don’t think it takes as long as several weeks. More often than not it’s done within a few weeks. There’s more chance of Transitional Protection (if entitled) not be calculated in time for your first statement than there is of the LCWRA element not being included.

You’ll be able to see all the posts that have been done on your thread. Yes, another work capability assessment isn’t needed and no fit notes are needed either. Your Support Group status carries over to UC, a claim just doesn’t get updated right away but a claim will be updated eventually to reflect that.
I’ll be doing a check on my claim 3 weeks after it’s been submitted. My claim is to be done on 5th Feb, 3 weeks after that date would be the week commencing 24th February. In that week I’ll check to see if my claim is showing LCRWA status.My assessment periods would be 5th - 4th each month so LCRWA would need to be included by 4th March, the date that my first statement is made.

I’ll be doing a “voluntary migration” @FluffyCatMeow. As my ESA doesn’t have the Severe Disability Premium in it, I don’t have to wait for a migration notice. I’m going to be better off. In other words, I’m going to be receiving more money than my current ESA entitlement (£318.10 every 2 weeks).

I just need my payments to be twice a month, not once a month @FluffyCatMeow. I have full confidence that I’ll get my payments my way. 😃👍✔️
On the day of my claim, I’m asking for payments to be done twice monthly (an Alternative Payment Arrangement).
There’s absolutely no way I can budget for the DWP just because UC mirrors the world of work. I can’t accept a single monthly amount and be expected to budget. I can’t budget. I don’t have the required ability as I have severe autism.0 -
You know Poppy that I won’t be getting any TP because I’m going to be better off anyway 👍.
I can understand TP/Transitional Protection not being calculated in time but I still feel it’ll be necessary to do a check on my claim a few weeks after 5th Feb. I will be doing that. Better to be safe than sorry, that’s my approach anyway 👍.0 -
Update:
The advisors that work for the Citizens Advice Help to Claim Service can’t stop advising me that I should instead do my claim for UC 24 hours after my ESA payment, so 1 day later. They say that I shouldn’t doing it bang on the day of an ESA payment because of the two week run on payment. I’m going to be listening to their advice, taking it on board.
Instead of doing my claim on the Wednesday, 5th of February 2025, I’ll do it on the day following my ESA payment, the Thursday. If following this advice from the HTC Service advisors means it helps me out in regards to that last payment from ESA (the two week run on), then I’m all for it.
My assessment periods will instead 6 - 5th each month and the first payment from UC will come on 12th March.

Please keep to one thread because I'm starting to get rather confused because you're posting the same comments over multiple threads.
That ESA payment on 5th Feb will not affect your UC if you claim on the same date.
