Labour doubles down on slashing billions from DWP's disability benefits bill

I was reading comments from the Disability and Work site and what someone said is the crux of the matter, "it's you can't work, you can't work", it really is that simple.

Starmer and reeves just given zelensky £2.2billion loan on top of the millions we are giving him yearly. Apparently millions have gone missing and unaccounted for , what's given to him. Starmer loves giving money abroad and never mind about us were just penniless

And do you think we should leave Ukraine to the tender mercies of Trump and Putin? We really are much too small fry to allow for complacency. It wouldn't do to see no further than the ends of our collective noses.

This is true we have no protection

Is this thread still about Labours benefit reforms?
4 -
I hope so.
When does Scope anticipate reforms to disability benefits (#ESA and #PIP) to be announced? Before or after the Spring Statement on 26th?

The thread seems to have digressed to the Ukraine and Trump which is nothing to do with potential government benefit changes.
An anouncement is expected on 26th March and that is all any of us know.

Hi @Catherine21 I'm OK, thanks, though stressed from thinking of what the DWP might come up with. My neuro condition is progressing so i just want to live my life in peace.

As far as I know the UK is cutting Foreign Aid and seized Russian assets to fund Defence Spending and supporting Ukraine.
Does this mean the welfare reforms are going to be less impactful? I think the Treasury have already calculated the numbers they intend to cut but legal challenges, possible rebellions from backbench Labour MP's could see those plans watered down.
What is the expected result? Cuts of varying degrees, less assessments for the most severely ill or disabled as it would save money, more medical evidence, PIP assessments and the Work Capability Assessments will merge to save money, new tiers for PIP and an overhaul of the current tiers.
I'm projecting my thoughts, is it wishful thinking?

I don't think they will merge pip , ESA and UC under one assessment
Really? Please read the thread.

There will be a single assessment. We know this.

Understandable! Yes it is and I apologise for being snappy, Danny.
Scope can you please separate the other stuff from this thread because there's so much of it
🙏

Labour haven't announced their plans yet.
If you are convinced there will be a single assessment fair enough, but that's your opinion and not fact.
We won't know the facts until Labour announce their plans via a Green Paper.
And remember even when those proposals eventually become law, the laws are usually a watered down version of the Green Paper.

???
The UC Programme is well under way. We do know the facts. I'm too tired for this.
