Upcoming changes to benefits

Here's a Telegraph article via MSN, of course the Telegraph love this but it's worth taking onboard. Define "minor mental health problems"? This will have legal ramifications because we're going into what is a disability aren't we? You cannot bar people from claiming incapacity benefits.
It will be interesting to see how "Minor mental health problems" gets defined within a legal context.

if this is true then it just shows that labour nor the telegraph have any idea what they’re talking about as you can’t get Pip for minor mental health problems anyway. I tried to apply recently as my mental health affects me daily, I can’t make phone calls, I don’t have any friends, I can’t socialise, I have breakdowns, i get so exhausted from a 5 minute interaction it takes me 2 whole days to recover, I become suicidal at any hint of stress. Is that minor? I wouldn’t say so. Under the equality act I am classed as disabled. I still got rejected for PIP so this article literally is just ridiculous and if this is labours plans then they are ridiculous too.

Exaclty!
thats all we heard from angela rayner, to end all poverty! well that aged well.
liers the lot of them.
I have even heard liz kendal is not happy with these cuts, perhaps going a bit to far.

But this was from daily mail source so may not be accurate about liz kendals thoughts, i just wish they would bring out the green papers now and put us out our misery!
Again this won't happened fast once they are announced well for current claimants anyway.

This is true, but only if they are tested, they can attempt to ignore the law, and will only be held to account if the community is prepared to take them to court.

possible plans to crack down on the appeals process . Apart from the MR which is decided by the DWP the only other appeal is tribunal. Unless as was found in my case the tribunal erred in law . I can’t see them getting away with scrapping appeals.

if this continues under Starmer labour are finished. Their only hope is to get rid of him and reeves. I don’t know one single person who likes them or what they are doing.

I read even George Osborne refused ro freeze pip , that's saying something. He said it would go to far if he did that

I'm the same, sent mine form back last Jan, I can't work. Are they cutting it then before we migrated
0 -
it would be amazing if they did . They must know under Starmer they’ll be finished as a party

If reeves hadn't made such a **** up with her budget, this wouldn't happen. Raising NI .business closing , laying people off, farmers selling up or worse. This happen to a farmer one of my relatives knew, because of inheritance tax.
Surely get rid of the front benchers, and try new people.

Worrying times, we will all end up in the a Victorian workhouse,at this rate

I honestly believe the lack of understanding the complete lack of empathy
will see her removed, Call it lettuce watch II.
They backtracked on non doms
Taxing Gambling firms
actually getting a viable agreement in place for brexit
Windfall tax on energy or make them lower the bills
I emailed the local MP, included a complete breakdown of everything needed,
also informed them poo, pee, vomit, blood do not come out at 30C and quick wash
despite what the adverts suggest meaning energy bills of 400 PPM are now the norm
dropping slightly in the summer. disabled people are poor they know the poor in society are the ones who when they have payments it goes right back into the economy,
Finally some sections of the local government are saying huge cuts could force disabled people into care and would mean either huge rises to council tax or those councils actually going bankrupt.
I also reminded them, imagine a tummy bug the normal treatment doesnt work
so you are having incidents of soiling but its on the same day you are either giving a media briefing or just working, the soiling occurs its visible and requires full change of clothes and a shower with the likelihood its going to happen a few more times.
We know what would happen they would cancel and you would not see them until the bug is gone, but for others its not a bug it doesnt go away its part of life they have to try and deal with. And the non stop rhetoric everyone can work, most are frauds is getting soul destroying when in effect they are blaming people for either being born disabled or becoming.

Jamk85, your mention of Rayner has made me realise how silent she’s been in all of this. What happened to her being so passionate about preventing and ending poverty? Is she not aware of the level of destitution that harsh cuts will lead to?
I wish I could just give everyone in this forum a big hug, if they want to. I’m so glad I found this thread because I would have been sick with terror if I wasn’t able to speak to people who get it.
I’ve mentioned her before in this thread, as has another poster, but Dr. Jay Watts on Twitter (her username is Shrink_at_Large) is great. She’s a consultant clinical psychologist who does a lot of disability activism particularly with mental illness, and a few hours ago she tweeted this:
Which is really good. I hope more professionals speak out.
I want to try and do as much as I can… I still have quite a few contacts in journalism/politics (in Scotland not Westminster — but still helpful) and might have a think and see what the feeling is…

I see on the front of The Times newspaper tomorrow that they are reporting that there is going to be changes to the eligibility of PIP. The Times are reporting that claims for MH, people who have problems with washing and dressing and eating could lose out. They are saying that these changes would apply to new claimants and claimants who are being reassessed.
2 -
Just came on to post that. I’ve read the full article and if it’s true. Does that mean anyone who has to migrate over to UC from ESA this year is gonna lose their benefit regardless? If that’s true I’d rather not move over and save as much ESA as I can before the deadline. I still have my SAD (PIP) in Scotland to get me by if needed.
I’ve quoted the 2 sentences here.
“The changes to eligibility criteria have been estimated to hit about a million people and are set to be applied to new claims and reassessments of existing claimants.”“Liz Kendall, the work and pensions secretary, is expected to cut the top rate of incapacity benefit, which at present means those deemed unfit for any work are paid more than £800 a month, twice as much as jobseekers.”

I'm not to sure. I'm claiming ESA (CB) and in the support group. I'm wondering how that is going to be affected as well. All will become clearer next week.
