Upcoming changes to benefits

Exactly this, these are such awful plans and it seems like the PIP freeze was always put there so they could backtrack and push the most serious parts through. It's infuriating seeing so many YouTube comments of people talking as if they're not planning on doing anything now.

I am starting to think it's deliberate….confuse, divide and conquer! A lot of people will have their eye off the ball now.

It annoys me that politicians keep calling it “mental health”. It’s mental ILLNESS. “Mental health” is something we all have… just like we all have physical health. But mental illness is completely different, it’s a disability.
Eg — everyone gets stressed or upset sometimes… that’s not an illness within itself and it wouldn’t qualify for PIP/LCWRA. But not everyone has a mental ILLNESS. Those of us that do ARE disabled from it! My mental illnesses affect every aspect of my day to day life. “Good work” won’t cure me, exercise won’t cure me, I have been ill since early childhood and multiple doctors have said that they believe that this is due to chemical imbalances in my brain, plus extensive trauma in my adult years leading to complex PTSD. I genuinely could not live without medication, even one missed dose makes me spiral and if I miss a day I get so depressed I can’t move or talk!
Sorry for the personal diatribe. But I know a lot of us are in the same situation and it helps to know you’re not alone. I refuse to be ashamed or vilified for being disabled any more, or invalidated because you can’t see my illnesses.
I see all of you, whatever condition you have. ❤️4 -
the fact that the dwp may be tightening criteria/general cuts for both pip and lcwra awards are both equally awful - let me reemphasis that
I think lcwra reforms will be of biggest concern to those who’s health doesn’t allow you to even consider work (even if the dwp got off your back and you finally had the opportunity to truly ask yourself that question) - uc can force to to job centre appointments and work related activities thanks to its claimant commitment (pip has no such small print) - lcwra award main perk isn’t the extra money for many of us, it’s the removed pressure compared to normal jobseekers
Pip reforms will be of bigger concern to those disabled who work (and may have decided to not also claim uc and do with less funds but not have a claimant committed - the fact pip is also not means tested is vital to disabled or live in carers in work) - if you take pip from the disabled person not only may they no longer be able to work but it also affects the carer and/or spouse/partner they live with and their working situation. And if you mess with people’s ability to work you are messing with the economy
(What reeves and Kendall don’t realise if they go ahead with a assault of this level on pip and lcwra - the worst case scenario is the several knock on effects could single handedly crash the uk economy (really stupid time to axe nhs England imo))
long term I personally want to find a way to ditch uc and rely just on pip and 1-2 days a week suitable work/help from family once health allows (as long as pip stays non means tested)I thought a Labour gov make help make that a real option on the table that could be a win win for both side - instead Labour actions have once again pushed me into unknown limbo - honestly I’m p***ed as it feels like yet again the dwp are trying to take my future from me

This isn't the first time I've read that Labour wanted to scrap the Work Capability Assessment, this was an opinion piece in November last year.

Its so sad to see so many being duped by the rumoured reversal, masses of misleading headlines as well.
3 -
No it means that they will need to do millions of reviews before reducing payments !!
And these will take decades

Yeh took it directly from the photo uploaded but doesn't seem to be a valid link

a different bias just put up a video. Quite embarrassing for him to be gushing over Starmer. Totally misleading ppl . I think they leaked the green paper to see the reaction but I don’t think they expected it to be so bad though . Fingers crossed it’s watered down. As any changes they make now isn’t back down, they can deny it was on the table to begin with 🤞

in many ways I feel angriest for people like you that have ‘beaten the odds’ and fought harder/made more sacrifices to get into works
Kendall and reeves should be sending these ppl thank you cards and flowers every week imo as it’s kind of their ‘ideal poster child scenario they want for all disabled that is not easy in practice to achieve
The fact these reforms will make life difficult for ppl in your situation may be the most unforgivable outcome (even far right ppl with a lack of brain cells should be outraged by that)

mines up early next year so I could get my review form anytime now . How could this affect me , any idea?
plus why has the DWP employed more case managers to make decisions on paper if they’re making changes. I’ve heard of a few that have been awarded on paper based on assessments.0 -
im stressing out about it

Read a little about the "right to try" legislation, which allows individuals to work without losing benefits or having to restart their disability application if the employment opportunity does not work out. Of course, what this looks like in practice remains to be seen. I, for one, would love to have a job where I can actually make it through the day.

so if they scrap WCA they’re saying there are no longer sick or disabled people so we don’t need help ? How is that legal ? And if they want a work coach to decide if I’m fit enough to work or engage I hope they’re prepared to take responsibility when my condition deteriorates. Even Atos assessors need some experience, how can they have non medical people deciding on medical issues

(Edit: quotes didn’t post)
I recommend reading into ‘Labour together’ - many of the MPs that had a significant hand in building it (such as reeves, streeting………….surprisingly even nandy) now have a seat on the cabinet.
I don’t think starmer was ever a member and was chosen to be the face of the movement (now known as ‘starmerism’) but not a main scriptwriter.
If starmer does take the fall in the future - mcsweeneys team will just try to get one of their own installed as his replacement (probably streeting)
There’s a saying to ‘cut the head off the snake
My gut is telling me starmer is not the head of the snake but nearer to the tail (and a snake can survive its tail been cut off)
I’m not absolving starmer of blame of this s******w, on the contrary I think he needs open his eyes and see the old ‘swamp that needs draining’
Start using your lawyer techniques for good starmer!

remember this is only the green paper and it was always going to be brutal the end result when it all gets put into place will be watered down

I think it’s almost amusing that we have all been found to qualify for disability benefits largely based on the evidence of doctors, who have years if not decades of experience and vast amounts of knowledge.
Alongside that, those of us who have gone to tribunal have spoken to a doctor who works in the highly specialised field of disability benefits and health… eg, my tribunal doctor was so wonderful, very knowledgeable, especially of BPD which I really appreciated because it’s so misunderstood. My doctors are amazing. All of these people are MEDICAL EXPERTS who KNOW what they’re talking about.
Then here come eejits like Streeting, Kendall, etc who make bold claims that mental “health” is over diagnosed, work can cure it, work can prevent relapse etc. Not a shred of medical experience or education. Acting like they know more than professionals!
Dr Streeting, Dr Kendall, Dr Reeves, and Dr Starmer will see you now, it seems…

I will be going tribunal on my 3 points to maken4 points !

Me too, I don't understand how my points add up now and I can get pip but if they change the rules someone who scores less will qualify and I will not! Seriously considering asking for a review now rather than wait until the changes come in as I am due one next year anyway.
