I have just come back from a few days  in France for my birthday.   I visited a few WW1 battlefields.   It was all very thought provoking.  I did though by a few books:
    1.  Battle of Pachendaeale
    2.  Battle of Ypres
    3.  Vimy Ridge

@C_J Oooo love Billy Connolly! You'll have to let us know what you think :) I'm sorry to hear you haven't been in a good place. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you need support <3

@AndyGT The Battle of Ypres caught my eye on that list. I had an ancestor who unfortunately passed during the battle. Did you have a good time in France?

In my ill state and days off, I've managed 7 chapters of The End and the Death Vol 2 by Dan Abnett and I still hold him as THE best Warhammer writer so far.

I'm hoping he's going to be involved with the Amazon TV Warhammer 40k adaptation headed by Henry Cavill. <3

I've been reading a few Christmas books this month. I bought and was gifted enough for an advent calendar. I started off with 1 book a day and it has been a few days since I picked one up as have been busy.

In my little Christmas haul, I read The Christmas Bookshop and the sequel, Midnight at the Christmas Bookshop by Jenny Colgan. Really loved them and cannot recommend them enough! Found a new favourite author in Jenny Colgan.

What has everyone been reading this past month?

    Bumping this up!

My Mum used to be a nurse and is into the history of nursing. For Christmas she got a book called The Black Angels which is about the Black nurses who were made to work on the Tuberculosis wards because no one else would go near those wards.

I am not fond of being lectured about how I am evil because I am a white male et cetera. but this book really isn't preachy at all, it's very well written and to the point, not opinionated. Actually it is incredibly sad in places.

One thing that stood out to me was a Black American nurse who looked after a German POW in America for over a year treating him well, caring for him, dressing him and washing him etc. The German man didn't even acknowledge her for the whole time until one day when he was about to pass away coughed up some green infectious mucus and aimed it at the nurse's face and said "I hope you die".

@66Mustang Wow. I wish I could write something allowed pass the filters about that POW.

I hadn't heard of the book Black Angels, will add it to my list. As this month is US Black History month, I have seen a lot of recommendations on social media and added some to my ever-growing list. Last year, I read The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. It was very hard to read in places, but so eye opening.

Well I've been busy with my audiobooks due to ill health and have finally finished The End and the Death vol 3 by Dan Abnett.  Which was the last book in a 64 part series that I've been reading for the last 18 years.  Kinda sad for it all to finish, but it was a great ending.

Now I will be revisiting Gaunts Ghosts, also by Dan Abnett!

At the moment I am reading a couple of books.  One is called "We Stand Together: The War in North Africa 1943 -1944".  By James HOLLAND.  It is a good book and rather large but as my Dad fought there I feel I have a vested interest.   The second book is more light hearted, even if it is about Murder.  It is called "The Rivers of London" by Ben Aaronowich.  It is about a series of murders in modern London being investigated by the little known Metropolitan Police Magic team.  Who knew????? .... I use to be in the Met and I was not aware of such  a team otherwise I would have applied....
Anyway, I hope you are all enjoying whatever you are reading ....
    Take care......

I love The Rivers of London @AndyGT, it had a very Pratchett vibe to it.  I'm hoping to read some more of Aaronowich's books soon.  If I'd have known about that team, I'd have signed up for sure.

I am about halfway through Mixed Signals by BK Borison. It's a great series of rom-com style books.

I was speaking to Alex who was previously part of the community team, and she recommended The View From Down Here, Life as a young disabled woman by Lucy Webster. So that is next on the list!
