@UKDJ I must check out the bookcrossing.com site thank you.

The last 2 books I read were
Daniel Hurst   The doctors wife  a thriller with 4 books in series

Laura Pearson    The last list of Mabel Beaumont  excellent about women and relationships

I love Patricia Cornwell and the Kay Scarpetta books where Kay is a forensic pathologist. There's loads of them and anything by Karin Slaughter who is an American author of who dunnits
I had forgotten about Patricia Cornwell. I read a lot of her Kay Scarpetta books many years ago - as I did Michael Connelly's "Harry Bosch" books - but most recently I read a few of James Patterson's books.
I vaguely remember reading a book by Karin Slaughter in the past too - can't remember the title, though?

    Thanks for the suggestions.

    Thanks for the website @UKDJ

I love thriller and crime novels and also a fan of Christie! The ABC Murders is one of my all-time favourites.

As mentioned in the other thread, I think you'd enjoy The Only One Left by Riley Sager. I also really like Holly by Stephen King. It's based off his character Holly Gibney who has her own private investigator business.

Recently, I have gotten into Claire Douglas who writes crime / thriller books.

I Googled "The Only One Left"/Riley Sager - very tempting!
I also downloaded the latest Patricia Cornwell ('Port Mortuary'), after being reminded of her by @Marydoll5

    - Must try to persevere with my Android e-reader!!!

PS - Reading about Stephen King reminded me of another of my favourites from my younger days... James Herbert - but he is no longer with us, so no new material!

I used to love James Herbert as a teen, especially Rats and Fluke.

@UKDJ He's known as quite the "marmite" author, but that book was one of my favourites of 2023. You'll have to let us know your thoughts on the latest Patricia Cornwell!

Lots of great books in this thread, i love terry pratchett and the discworld series of books, just so immersive. I also like to read biographies and just finished this one about the actor stuntman kane hodder, who is most famous for playing jason voorhees, he has had a fascinating life, he went through a bad burn at the start of his career, and came through it, it is harrowing reading his struggle to get well, but also inspiring

Ooo I love a behind the scenes kind of book! Do you read many behind the scenes style like that one @Grinchy? Any other to recommend?

Hey @Hannah_Scope, i like movie type books biographies that sort of thing, and for the more indepth technical aspects there was a book slash magazine bi monthly called cinefex, that went over movie special effects, it finished publication a year or two back but you can still find back issues on ebay, it gets very technical, but i liked it, shame its gone

Ooo that would be one to look out for, I wonder if they are available as e-copies too? I like the "coffee table" books you see at Christmas or in Costco with all the behind the scenes. Especially the makeup ones!

@CountryMimi I am getting visions of those huge ornate boat baths you find in old houses / luxury hotels <3

Yeah.... 🤣 and many more as I preordered a load for this year when it was triple points at Waterstones!

I have a voucher too and I have one for The Works which I may save for the summer!
Hahaha! Not quite that luxurious and definitely not a big bath! We went to a stately home for my Mum's birthday and were quite jealous that our bath isn't as amazing as those ones. The wardrobe had been turned into a toilet too hahaha

Oooo if you fancy a way of saving money on your books, I'll send you a link to an app I use!

I'm gutted that The Works are closing their loyalty scheme 😟
