Picked up The Handmaid's Tale this morning, was going for £2 in a local charity shop and I've been meaning to read it for some time.

@rustledjimm I think I probably have the amount of times I have read Pride and Prejudice! 😂 Ooo! that's a good bargain! You'll have to let us know what you thought of The Handmaids Tale!
@CountryMimi That's no problem! I hope everything is ok?
I love country music too! I fell in love with a Mr Tim McGraw and haven't looked back! 😂 Yes, I know S Club Juniors, it's amazing how talent can come from such raw places. For lack of a better term. It's not all strict lessons and lots of money being poured into it. Good on her!
Yes I miss sitting in my hammock! Ooo hopefully there is a sequel and if you are ordering books, be careful, it's dangerous out there with releases at the moment! 😂
We will have to create it! It was strange, especially as we only had one solo too, which you'd think they let us take more control. I do and don't. I wish I studied it more because I'd love to know more about the behind the scenes but I'd have to do everything with courses in my area. So I understand where you are coming from. Musicals are the best! Oh no! I'm so sorry that you missed their run. I hope you are better now though?
Oh! It's because her middle name was Winifred but they only used it on her baptism record so we never knew until that was unearthed! An interesting one was my 4 x great uncle was called Elias, but changed his first name to David when he moved to America. Yet, his brother was called David? so I wonder when there were family reunions how that went 😂
If you have ancestors near you, I go cemetery walking 😂 which I know sounds weird! but you can get more accurate dates off of gravestones if they have them. That's why I started my ancestry, so future generations knew what I could find.
I haven't seen it yet, I have been reading Fourth Wing. I currently have The Phone Box on the Edge of the World on hold. You need to read Fourth Wing!! I'm telling everyone! It's so good, especially if you like a romance / fantasy story.
It's actually made it difficult for me to pick up another book 😂0 -
@Hannah_Scope a lot of things in the mix at the minute - my mum and I are moving from our respective homes and moving in together as we feel it would be better for the time being with my health as it is at this time. My mum is having quite a stressful time with work at the moment as well, something which has sort of crossed into both her professional and private life together.
Awww 😍 I occasionally listen to Tim McGraw, I'll have to listen to him more as I think all country music is amazing to be honest - though I absolutely love Dan and Shay!
Haha I absolutely loved S Club Juniors 😆 I've met Aaron a few times - when he was touring with Flashdance and at a Panto
I feel you, where has this summer weather gone?! I haven't been reading so much lately - I still have Craig David's book to finish. I've sort of been more distracted by drawing recently. Have you been ordering more books? 😝
That's really strange - you definitely would have thought they would have let you take more control! Yeah, I'm completely with you on behind the scenes - I absolutely love stuff like that! I've done a couple of the behind the scenes tours at media city and absolutely loved them! One of them was the coronation street set which I absolutely loved! Do you have a favourite musical? Far better than then in terms of infection, thank you!
Ahhh I see, that makes sense! So did she go by Winifred? Interesting as my dad went by his middle name and I also have a cousin who goes by her second name. It seems to be more of a common thing to do than I've ever known! That's so funny! He must have really liked the name David 😂😂 there is one graveyard quite near where my Great Grandma is buried, but I believe my Mum and Auntie went to visit when it was my Grandma's funeral and couldn't find the plot. I've told my mum that she's going to have to write down addresses of where she lived growing up so that I can put them on her ancestry profile - I think it gives such a good picture of their lives!
Ooo it sounds interesting! I'll have a look at it. I've not been one to be in to fantasy, but romance is my weakness, so I'll have to check it out
Oh no 😂 it must be gripping!0 -
@CountryMimi
Good luck with the moving! I'm sorry you've both been unwell and under stress. Hopefully the move will help that 😊
Love Dan and Shay! I saw Tim McGraw live at Country to Country and it is one of the top moments of my life! 😍 Oh Flashdance! Another great production!
We are supposed to be having another heatwave soon! I've had dips in reading because I've been busy with work, with family...etc. So many birthdays and celebrations this last month with more to come! I hope it's still going good, Craig David's book? I did buy more books.... 👀😂
I've had to be good though as I have a huge physical TBR and Taylor Swift tickets go on sale soon!
I love Wicked! It's one of my all time favourite musical scores. What's yours? It was strange but then, we were a technology school so the arts didn't have a lot in the budget. They sound amazing! I've seen more behind the scene tours pop up! I may have to have a look and maybe book, haha.
She went by Win, which I think meant that everyone thought she was a Winifred. It is becoming common! I think because a lot of people pass down a first name? It is funny, I do wish I could be a fly on the wall back then 😂 It does! and some cities and villages have local history websites or social media pages. I found an image of what the street looked like where my grandfather lived when he was young. I only recognised the street name because of what I'd been told. If you create a tree with Ancestry. They put world events in the life story part of their profile which is really interesting.
It's so good! I've been telling everyone 😂😂😂0 -
I have been struggling to get into a book after reading Fourth Wing!
I'm currently reading The Keeper of Stories by Sally Page and it's taking me a while longer than usual 😅
I have bought a few more books... I think I'm on my way to a library!
What is everyone currently reading? or Has anyone picked up a book or two recently?0 -
I've just started to read Find you First by Linwood Barclay.
The other day in my local charity shop I brought The Musketeers Complete D'Artagnan series by Alexandre Dumas for a £1.00 not sure when I will get around to reading that as it's the size of a phone book.
I also brought 6 books called Assassin's creed that follow one and other for £3.00 it was the cover of the book that caught my eye so not sure what they will be like but can't complain for the price has anyone heard of them?
I do love my books0 -
I love a chunky book @C_J but it has to be in hardback. One of my book no no's is bending to spine
That was such a good offer though! Well done for coming across that! Assassin's creed as in the video game?
I love my books too, I think I am on my way to have a library... albeit spread amongst boxes around the house!0 -
@Hannah_Scope I'm the same bending book spines is definitely a no no and ear marking pages is another (where people bend the corner of a page)
My book collection is always growing I don't mind paperbacks but much prefer hardback books. I also like old books as well.
Yes your correct Assassin's creed as in the video game.0 -
Yes! I can't earmark them either.
I love a hardback book. When new books are released my friend is always gutted it's hardback and I'm doing a happy dance it is
Ah! I heard very good things about the game so that bodes well for the books!1 -
Hi Hanna, like you i always buy hardback books, just pre-ordered the latest from Robert Galbraith in the Cormoran Strike series, don't know if you've read any of these books but they are a cracking read, just another idea for your collection as you seem to buy more than i do!!0
-
That is another to add to the list @Wilshyboy!
I do buy a lot of books I'm hoping to go to 66books soon and have a huge stock up!0 -
So...
I went book shopping again. To be fair, I pick up one or two here and there and then will maybe get a 3 for £6 offer at the works, This time I got quite a few. They don't fit in my storage boxes
I had a sort out last night and I have 82 books on my physical tbr... Whoops!
I am still trying to read The Keeper of Stories by Sally Page. I have just been in such a reading slump, but I don't like to DNF a book. Hoping to get more read over August. Cannot wait for September as I have picked up a few thrillers, crime and horrors to hopefully get me in the Autumnal / Halloween mood!
How has everyone else got on reading this month?0 -
Hi Hannah, just started reading the Orphan X books by Gregg Hurwitz again, These are another series to add to your growing TBR pile, these and Robert Galbraith should keep you going till Christmas!!0
-
I spoke to my bookseller about the Robert Galbraith books as The Running Grave is out soon and they said they don't have a date for the paperback yet. As I'd like to have them all the same format
The Orphan X books will get you in the mood for Halloween! I've seen them on display before. Will have to take another look at them.
I have a few books on preorder but I am after Hallowe'en Party by Agatha Christie as that is what the new Poirot film, A Haunting in Venice is based on. Excited for that!0 -
