I think we've all suffered a good deal of harm from the "autistic/ND people don't feel empathy/have emotions" trope, when in fact we do, and often to an amplified degree. We just tend to struggle with managing, processing and expressing them in a way that the world deems appropriate.

It doesn't help that there are a few novels out there aimed at young people which talk about ND people being 'taught empathy' by non-divergent folks, and that a couple of them have received awards…
