Is that on journal - or at the time of claiming? Sorry for bombarding you with questions. I want to know the best way for me? I only ask because I tried to create on of those gateway accounts years ago for something, and couldn’t because I didn’t have a passport. So wondering if the online verification for UC is the same and need a passport

Yes, the fast-track online verification is done using a passport.

I also only have a driving licence and could not verify online.

This is the list for online verification - if you don't have two of these then you can't verify online.

You can use any 2 of the following items to verify your identity online:

    • payslips dated within the last 3 months
    • most recent P60
    • valid UK passport
    • recent Self Assessment returns
    • tax credits (including Voice ID)
    • credit references or records – for example, information about credit cards or phone contracts

it was at the time applying for UC part of the application.

Okay looking at this list - I have no choice but to ask for the biographical check, or going into the Job centre.

I know the information will be things I know, but I struggle on the phone sometimes. I think I’d be okay if my mom went with, and asked for reasonable adjustments. I’m just worried going into a job centre will set off my anxiety. Years ago I tried JSA, I did get a job but was (was dismissed for not being able to competently do the job) when I realised this catatonic at the prospect of claiming, hence why I ended on ESA.

I’m just worried that by going to the JC I will lose my SG status and they won’t put be in the LCWRA.

I’m so sorry for putting this all in this forum, but I don’t know where to voice my fears, because my mom just keeps saying it will be straightforward. But I’m sick with worry.

Going into the Job Centre to verify your ID won't result in the loss of your ESA SG. Won't happen and would never happen.

Rach can’t you online when applying for UC? It saves going to the JC

    Hi,

I know that a driving licence wouldn’t be enough, on their website - they something to prove ID, like a driving licence. Proof of address - bank statement, and another further document to proof ID like a P60. Is that not correct.

Taken off their website: Photo ID

This can include any of the following:

    • passport from any country
    • photocard driving licence (full or provisional)
    • NHS identity card with a biometric chip
    • armed forces or police identity card
    • PASS card (National Proof of Age Standards Scheme)
    • eVisa or expired biometric residence permit (BRP) if you do not have an eVisa, showing you’re allowed to stay in the UK for 6 months or more
    • foreign national identity card (but not identity cards issued under the UK National Identity Scheme)
    • immigration status document or other travel document showing you’re allowed to stay in the UK indefinitely
    • certificate of naturalisation as a British citizen, which shows you’re allowed to work in the UK
    • foreign photocard driving licence with an international driving permit, valid for up to 12 months from the date you entered the UK
    • a residence permit, registration certificate or other document showing your right to live permanently in the UK, if you’re a national of the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein
    • permanent residence card issued to a family member of a national of the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein

    Proof of address

This can include any of the following:

    • mobile phone, landline phone, gas, water or electricity bill dated within the last 6 months
    • bank, building society, credit card or credit union statement, dated within the last 6 months
    • current Council Tax statement
    • UK full or provisional photocard driving licence (if not already used as photo ID)
    • UK full paper driving licence
    • vehicle registration documents
    • your most recent tax notification from HMRC (for example, tax assessment, statement of account, notice of coding)
    • any other correspondence from HMRC (but not a P45 or P60)
    • mortgage statement
    • letter from your employer
    • letter from a school, college or university
    • buildings, contents or vehicle insurance policies
    • life insurance or assurance policies
    • council rent card or tenancy agreement
    • proof from the electoral register that you live at the address
    • personal loan account statement
    • student loan documents
    • letter from an accountant or solicitor
    • certificate from a utility supplier showing you use a pre-payment arrangement at your address, dated within the last 6 months

    Further proof of identity

This can include any of the following:

    • current debit, credit, or store card with a statement confirming the details on the card
    • P45 or P60
    • savings account book
    • personal cheque book

Or any of the following if not already used to prove your address:

    • mobile phone, landline phone, gas, water or electricity bill dated within the last 6 months
    • bank, building society, credit card or credit union statement, dated within the last 6 months
    • current Council Tax statement
    • current or recent payslip or pension statement, dated within the last 6 months
    • your most recent tax notification from HMRC (for example, tax assessment, statement of account, notice of coding)
    • student loan documents
    • mortgage statement
    • council rent card or tenancy agreement
    • personal loan account statement
    • buildings, contents or vehicle insurance policies
    • life insurance or assurance policies
    • certificate from a utility supplier showing you use a pre-payment arrangement at your address, dated within the last 6 months

Utility bills can be used for proof of address and as further proof of identity if they are from different suppliers.

I have benefit letters too from PIP and ESA, a credit card statement would this be enough?
or would I better asking for a biographical check?

I will probably do the claim online now - I want to be in control and be able to remind them I’m in the support group for ESA so they don’t require fit notes etc.

I’m just considering my options on whether to ask CAB for help, is it worth it if they help over the phone? or do it myself with the help of a family relative.

I stand corrected. It looks like they have changed the requirements since I did mine. Now you only need one piece of photo ID if going to a JobCentre.

If you’re invited to a face-to-face interview at a Jobcentre Plus, you’ll need to bring ID and documents with you.

You’ll need to bring an original of all of the following:

    • one photo ID
    • one proof of address
    • one further proof of identity

The biographical check is entirely up to you. I couldn't do it as I can't use phones at all, but if that is easier for you than going to the JobCentre or having a home visit then you are welcome to do it that way.

thank you. Did you attend the Job centre to verify your claim? Did it go smoothly, or was there a delay? Thanks.

I can't travel so couldn't attend the JobCentre. Eventually they allowed a relative to attend on my behalf. It caused a delay of more than one month and did not go smoothly. But I'm hoping they've learnt from that experience and would not put other claimants through the same thing now.

For me I preferred to do it online, the phone call I had for the nsESA caused me all sorts of problems with my anxiety.

If you are worried about appointments and your claim is entirely income based, then providing the Id successfully online I think will avoid the need for even a phone call, as can then agree to the commitments with a single click. Also doing it online, you can take your time, no need to worry about it in a live conversation.

I seen overlyanxious reply, yes I did do the passport online as well which verified instantly. I did find my tax receipt from ESA, but in the end I did passport, bill and questions about my credit file.

I think I am the only one on here so far who managed to avoid any appointments at all for UC?

(SG) ESA IB combined with EDP (+HB 100% CTB some to pay) once migration letter received…….

Will Current ESA / HB run on for two weeks then become ESA NS (fortnightly) two weeks later or processing time potential delays? (Do you have to physically claim ESA NS ??)

HB / UC top-up will it be paid 3 weeks after last payment of legacy ESA (IB/IR) and will it be a month of UC and HB combined ?

How do landlords take it as rent will be paid in arrears rather than in advance?

Do people need / take an advance if payments split as above? (If no savings)

    thanks

Yes IR ESA & HB run on for two weeks. So two weeks after claiming UC you'll receive the final payment.

UC is paid just over 5 weeks from when you claim, then every month afterwards on that date (if that date falls on a weekend or bank holiday it will be paid on the working day before).

You should let your landlord know about claiming Universal Credit. Some are happy to wait, others set up a payment plan so you pay a little extra until the arrears are paid.

CB ESA changes automatically into NS ESA, there is nothing you need to do. Apart from a Commitments interview (can be done over the phone), this is just a formality your only commitment will be to keep them updated with any changes.

    poppy,

Sorry to bother you but would you mind posting the advice on notifying dwp of any severe/enhanced disability elements of esa (aka award elements covered in transitional protection) - I vaguely remember someone on this forum offering a ‘copy n paste’ of a note you should put in your journal (that may of been about sick notes come to think of it)

Part of your ESA will only revert to New style if part of your current ESA is contributions based. If all of it is IR then it will all stop 2 weeks after you claim.

Previous posts indicate they do get both CB & IR ESA 😊
