Hi, I just filled in my universal credit claim as I was told I need to migrate over. I'm in the income related eas support group, should I have added on the journal thing that I've had to migrate and was in the support group of esa ,thank you for any advice

I don't think it does any harm to add a Journal note 😊

I got an email today informing me to check my UC account. It seems about 5 months after migration they have decided to tell me on a journal note nsESA will be deducted from my UC.

    Hello,

After an extension owing to the complex family setup they informed my brother via a letter this had been reduced from 4 weeks to 2 weeks, over the weekend my sister helped him

with online, within a day he got a message someone would be calling him tomorrow.

The CAB helpline they say about in the migration letter have been helpful and openly said

there was nothing on the system for the setup we have, and they had to seek advice from managers, He's very worried to have heard this fast about a phone call, Is it normal?

He's normally the cool one but never seen him so worried,

    @Vulcress

I'm managing a migration for a relative. They received this message

Confirm your identity - wait for call

the day after submitting the UC application.

No call was received but an entry was added to the Journal later that day advising of an ID Verification interview.

All this UC is a mess ,difficult to fathom. 5 January,I did migration child tax credits, to UC. "TAKES 5 WEEKS" I heard nothing, but had 3 payments sent of less than half of what I received before migration, but also not stating what payment is for. Not touched any of payments as no idea what for.

Put on journal the same asking why. No responses. The thing is a total mess and confusing ,good luck to everyone whichever UC query it is for. Seems these people no idea also.a total shambles

    thank you both.

it really is a mess, we are all a bag of nerves because the way he got shunted around various UC "managers" being told one thing then another the person from CAB was in on the calls and she actually just stopped one, she knew what the person was saying was complete nonsense so she escalated it to another dept and they currently have a backlog of 12 days to reply. so they gave him an extension of 4 weeks then out of the blue this was cut to 2 weeks.

It's beyond shocking how variable the 'advice' is from UC personnel. Thank goodness for the CAB lady!

One thing I will say. Is a lot of DWP/UC staff don’t have a clue about the process or even the rules etc. I’ve seen it on Reddit from those who “Say” who work for them have been given people different information on the same type of subjects. Got to a stage where I won’t trust any word from DWP or UC staff members going forward. Some of the same “staff” members on Reddit are quite rude towards people with disabilities on there.

As I haven't received any response from my own post I'll try on here.

I received close to 41k in backdated payments of Severe Disability Premium on 18/2/25. I should have been receiving it since 2013

A few days later I received a Migration Notice.

I have completed the claim, set up a journal etc but am trying to establish whether what I have in savings now will count towards the capital limit. I have a letter which confirms it is an official error. I have a Biographical telephone interview on 22nd April

However the backdated payment was sent as several separate sums all under 5k.

Can anyone please clarify if this will be disregarded for capital purposes

I'm pretty sure you'll get an message from someone more knowledgeable than me telling you that backdated error payments are discounted for a year from payment date so the saving you have in the bank minus the entire back pay is what counts towards your claim.

There are some properly knowledgeable people on here. You'll get a better reply after Easter.

Yes its disregarded for a year after that it will be counted as capital so if you have over 16 grand and it's been over a year

It's difficult to say whether the disregard is for one year or indefinitely (due to being for official error and total over £5000).

I personally would consult a trained benefits advisor

    https://advicelocal.uk/welfare-benefits

If the answer was one year due to the payment structure, you may well consider a formal complaint to see if DWP would state unequivocally in writing that the disregard is to be considered as indefinite.

Hi I received my micration notice on 5 th March I did my application at the citizens advice office with an advisor on 22nd april she set me up an online journal as I am disabled and cannot do things very well on line I rang help to claim who rang universal credit with me I change to a telephone claim also want housing costs to go direct to my council should I ring esa to tell them I have claimed universal credit worried about getting over payment I got last payment on 18 th april I should get my last 2 week run on payment on 2nd may is this right Deborah j

No you don't need to ring ESA.

UC will ask ESA about your previous award so they (ESA) will know you've claimed UC.

Overpayments can still happen if information internally isn't shared/processed in time, should it happen it really isn't anything to worry about.

With the run on payment we can't answer for certain, as the run on payment isn't always paid exactly two weeks later for your exact normal payment amount.
