PIP Review

My pip award finishes in September 2025. Three years after it was awarded.

Today I received a text saying pip review paperwork had been sent. I was expecting it so nothing unusual there.

A couple of questions which I expect a lot of people already ask.

  1. I have no changes and a couple of additions, should I write no change or should I write out each thing in full like on my original form?
  2. Can I type it on a computer and use a separate piece of paper for long answers like I did when I did my LCWRA paperwork?
  3. How long are PIP reviews currently taking? I am in the South West

Thanks :)

1/ Never just write no change, even if there's been no changes. All claims should be treated as a new claim. Your aim should be to avoid an assessment and the only way to do this is to give as much relevant information as possible.

2/ Yes you can type and print everything out. This is what I usually do. I also make sure I write a small amount on for each question on the form, such as "please see extra sheets for information" make sure you put your name and NI number on everything you send. Keep copies of everything for yourself.

3/ A very long time for the majority of people… as in, you should expect as long as a year. My review took just under 12 months after receiving my form. I had a paper based assessment, with a quick 5 minute call from a decision maker. Your current award will continue until a decision is made.

You can also ask for extra time to return the form and they will give 2 extra weeks.

oh that's very interesting I didn't know you could type it out

Of course you can. There's many people that can't write with a pen for one reason or another so yes typing is absolutely fine.

Received the renewal form today. It looks nothing like the original form I filled out. Maybe different design?

They want it back by the 5th January. Xmas is not a good time for me, just generally, I am not sure if I can get it back by then, did you say there was a way to extend it?

Also when I fill out the form, apart from additional things I need to add can I just fill in what I did on the original form? Everything is exactly the same?

Though I noticed on this form they are saying you can send in medical evidence like scans etc, I am not sure if I did any of that the first time around?

    Thank you

The form is a shortened version of the PIP2 form. You can ring PIP and ask for extra time and they'll give an extra 2 weeks.

You can put what you did on the original form but to be honest, I've never done that although they have looked back at my previous forms before making a decision. I just prefer to add more information rather than copy my last form.

If your current award was from a Tribunal, I don't advise that you just copy your previous form word for word.

    Thanks Poppy,

So if you haven't put what you wrote on the original form, how do you say "no change" or do you write something like "No change however xxxxxxx" and then add more information?

Sorry if that has come out wrong, I think what I am asking is how do you let me know everything is the same as before without writing "everything is the same as before". Does that make sense?

The current award isn't from a tribunal.

Can't edit it. 15 mins to edit really is too short.

    It should have said "

I think what I am asking is how do you let them know everything is the same as before without writing "everything is the same"

If there's been no changes them tell them that but include information about how your conditions affect you. Make sure you explain in full detail and include those real world incidents. If there's been changes then tell them and include information about what exactly has changed.

When I included real world incidents in my form, they weren't the same incidents that happened the last time I fill out the form back in 2021.

Just one more question. For the review, if things have not changed, do I need to include the diagnosis and scans from when I sent in the forms originally or is that not needed?

Sorry, I didn't see that question until now. They do tell you not to send anything you've sent them before. They "should" keep everything you've sent in the past.

For my daughter's first review I sent everything that was relevant because I didn't send it when I first claimed for her because I didn't have that evidence at the time. For her 2nd review I didn't send it because it's such a lot of paper work, I just concentrated on the form with the real world examples.

Some people may disagree with this and tell you to send everything again, if it's relevant. For this reason it's entirely up to you what you do.

Thanks Poppy, I must have missed that bit, I did skim through the review form when it arrived and noticed the bit about sending evidence but not the bit about not sending stuff you had sent before.

I am going to contact them next week to extend the return date then spend a week after xmas just doing this form and getting anything new added on.

    Thanks again :)

Hi again, well 2 weeks to go before they are supposed to have this form back and I have just managed to write my name so I have some questions, please bear with me if asked before and hopefully this will be the last lot :

    1) The form says you can send in additional evidence but you need to post it to some freepost address. The address looks the same as the form I am returning but I have to send it seperately, is that correct? As I cannot write on some of the stuff I am sending back how will they know its from me if send seperately? Do I have to send a letter with it?

    2) Assessors report(from the original award), is that the summary they write on your pip award or is there a more in depth version I could look at? Even though might be a little late getting hold of that now

    3) We can definitely definitely write every reply on a seperate printed piece of paper and just include it in the envelope we are returning?

    4) Following on from question 3, I am not sure I will get everything in the envelope they are provided, can I send it in my own envelope to the freepost address or will it be too big?

Think that is it, I do apologise for anything I have asked that I have already asked before.

1/ Any additional evidence you have should be sent with the form. It doesn't need to be sent separately. I think you may have misunderstood what it says. When sending any evidence or additional sheets of paper you should always make sure you put your name and NI number on everything you send. They will then know it's from you.

2/ The assessment report is different to what what written on your award letter. It's goes into more detail than the decision itself.

3/ Yes, you can do that, this is what I've always done and never had any issues. Just remember the advice give in point 1 on this comment.

4/ Use a bigger envelope but you'll need to take it to the post office for them to weigh it because there could be extra postage to pay.

    1. I think its just bad writing on the form to be honest. So page 6 says if you have additional evidence please send to this address and then gives the address. The following page which is a completely new chapter says you can send supporting evidence with the form.

Thank you for the replies, hopefully thats it now. If I ask for the assessors report tomorrow morning. What are the chances of getting it within a week? I have 2 weeks from today to get the form back in

    Thanks
