💫🤩What Has Your Child Taught You? - Disability Pride Month🤩💫

Part One - Disability Pride Month For Parents & Carers of Disabled Children
As we’re in Disability Pride Month, I thought it would be a good time to shine a light on the children of the wonderful parents and carers here in the community!
As parents and carers of disabled children you all do so much such as advocating, supporting, protecting, loving and even more. But alongside that, you're also raising children with individual personalities, interests and perspectives.
And let’s be honest…adults could learn a lot from children!
So I wanted to ask a question that I’m very curious about…
What has your child taught you?
It could be something about…
- Resilience
- Patience
- Unlearning ableism
- Slowing down and being present
- Seeing the world in a whole new way
- Having a sense of humour and not taking life too seriously
It can be deep. It can be funny. It can be both!😄

All of the above!!!
Birthing her was so ghastly I never did it again but she changed my life for the better. Because of her, I enjoyed a second childhood and got an autism diagnosis after years of therapy which had never helped.
I indulged her quirks and allowed her all the fun I'd missed during my own childhood! My daughter accomplished things I'd failed at and forged deep friendships which I'd also missed out on. She taught me how to forgive and how to love unconditionally

How to Dad
is a funny reel on Face Book which I watch with the sound muted (probably funnier with the sound on). Dad 'teaches' his three girls - baby included - how to do everyday tasks and activities with them kitted out doing said activities 😄

Thank you for sharing @WhatThe, that was really lovely to read!! How is your daughter doing at the moment?
I will have to search for that reel later, it sounds like something I would enjoy as it sounds rather funny😄0 -
😄 I hope you enjoy it too - let me know!
Thank you for asking, Mary. Sadly, denied reasonable adjustments in yet another job and in taxing negotiations yet again. It's a worry, for her and anyone on the spectrum in the jobs market.
I wonder if employers see autism as a hindrance rather than an asset. Does she just mask too well? It's baffling.
